Dating You Hating You - Christina Lauren

3.75/5 ⭐️

This was a really sweet book! It took me a bit to get into the start of the book, but at the second half it definitely picked up and sucked me in. The banter between Evie and Carter is really fun, and I love how toe-to-toe they are. I really liked both of the characters as people, and they were both just super smart and strong characters. While this was a romance, the romance is a bit more of a subplot to the professional struggle and power plays within the office. I love the way that it really emphasized and shed light on unequal treatment and standards for women in the workplace! This was just a very funny, nice and entertaining book, not my all time favorite read, but would recommend!

Synopsis:
Despite the odds against them from an embarrassing meet-awkward at a mutual friend’s Halloween party, Carter and Evie immediately hit it off. Even the realization that they’re both high-powered agents at competing firms in Hollywood isn’t enough to squash the fire.

But when their two agencies merge—causing the pair to vie for the same position—all bets are off. What could have been a beautiful, blossoming romance turns into an all-out war of sabotage. Carter and Evie are both thirtysomething professionals—so why can’t they act like it?

Can Carter stop trying to please everyone and see how their mutual boss is really playing the game? Can Evie put aside her competitive nature long enough to figure out what she really wants in life? Can their actor clients just be something close to human?

I feel like I’ve been reading some heavier/more toxic intense books and romance, so a more wholesome and chill books was a great palate cleanser!

3.5 stars

Christina Lauren is creeping up on my list of favorite authors. While the beginning was a little slow for me, the end definitely made up for it. I love Evil and Carter!!! The end could not have been more perfect! It reminded me of the Hating Game (but take that with a grain of salt because those are the only workplace romances I've read). But overall, Christina Lauren never misses!!!

A fun book to have as my first read of 2021...
challenging hopeful lighthearted medium-paced

I liked this book. Most of Christina Lauren’s books have been a solid 3 stars for me, and this one was no exception. It was fun, light and while it was a bit long, I enjoyed it overall. 3/5 for me!

This is by far my least favorite Christina Lauren novel thus far. It was just kind of boring and the plot was just meh. Also the romance just wasn’t it. Oh well, read it for a quarterly challenge so  lesson learned.

This is a cute office romance. I know a lot of reviews complain that there was too much focus on the office and not enough on the romance, but personally I really enjoyed the glimpse into office life.

I'm a college student working her way through school, so the office life is not one that I'm familiar with. This book really took me away into a world of happy hour drinks, appetizers, and meetings over lunch. I know it was probably a lot more glamorized compared to reality, especially because these people are from Hollywood, but regardless it really captivated me.

The love story was good too. This was about two adults trying to find the balance between romance and responsibility. Which is what real life is like. Sometimes lust and a pretty face isn't the solution to all of your life's problems, and this book shows that with two career-driven MCs.
