This is one of my top three of the Little House books. It’s quite frightening to think about how long the “long winter” lasted with everyone in De Smet practically starving before the snow melted and the trains brought groceries.
Definitely an in-depth look at some hard times.

I don't think anything I've ever read has evoked the coldness like this book has. Wilder is brilliant.

I think I must have read these books so many times as a child the pages turned to dust. Love Laura Ingalls Wilder and her stories of the American prairie.

This one took me a long time to finish! (See what I did there..!)
It always strikes me how simply they lived and how hardworking they were compared to people now.
