This was just fun, nothing more. I think Koontz might've been trying to be deep or provocative in some areas, but I really couldn't tell nor care less if he was. This was my first Koontz book and reading it was akin to watching a film like Die Hard. Earth shattering brilliance? In some scenes, yeah, while other scenes are pointless or dumb. Super deep and interesting characters? Maybe one or two but most everyone is just your average Joe thrown into an over the top event. A super complex plot that makes complete logical sense? No, there are some leaps in logic required from the audience to fully appreciate and enjoy the book. But you know what? Who cares, the tension was high, the stakes kept getting higher, the twists were put at just the right spots. There were a couple leaps in logic that were a little too far, i.e. one character makes one pretty gigantic leap about halfway through and with very very very little clues he pretty much solved the whole mystery. Come on, Koontz. That was a little stupid and too far from a logistical perspective. Things like that are why it's 4 instead of a full on 5. Not even a 4.5, im satisfied with just a 4. It was super fun, a consistent page turner with suspense right up until the final chapter, with some silly sequences thrown in but it's just a fun book at the end of the day. And that's not a bad thing.

I would have given it 5 stars, but there were just some parts that really dragged for me. Otherwise it was a great book.

Good book/idea--about 300 pages too long

The story began slowly and it picked up eventually. I really enjoyed the middle of the story, especially from the Doctor's point of view. Skeet was my favorite character.
The ending, however, did not excite me very much and it left me feeling a little cheated.

I did this book on tape. Slow moving at first but then I didn't want to get out of my car so I could keep listening. One of my favorite Koontz books.

I typically enjoy psychological thrillers but this one was beyond gross in my opinion. There was so much graphic content that it was too much for me. I thought the underlying storyline was interesting but I don’t know how anyone comes up with stuff like this and puts it in a book.
Cautionary: rape, graphic murder, graphic torture, child abuse, drug abuse, hypnosis, suicide,

This is one of my two favorite novels by Dean Koontz. Has a wonderful twist at the end. Much of the paranormal events that occur throughout the lives of the characters are a result of something you would least expect. Great book and highly recommended.

Not too bad of a thriller, but it got old very quickly, and I was left unsatistfied with the ending. Koontz's attack on the intellectuals was also extremely irritating, and overall I don't think I'm coming back to him again.
