Angsty, but I like it.
I like how the Spanish original is on one side and the translation is on the other. Reading the words in Spanish helped me picture the musicality of understanding the original text, while the translation helped me understand the context. Neruda is a master of feeling, of dawns and souls, and of positioning poems to form a fluid relationship arch. It feels like it was one long love (rather than multiple) and the ultimate release/closure. He has beautiful nature imagery. For anyone getting into poetry, specifically love poems, this would be the place to start.

Probably better prior to translation- Tonight I write is the far superior poem to make up for other more lackluster poems IMO
i had high hopes for this especially being one of the most famous neruda poetry collections. the low rating for this masterpiece is mostly due to my inability to connect with the prose in a meaningful way, which i hope to one day amend by learning spanish, which my copy conveniently has the original poems in spanish on the left pages and the english translations on the right. i did really love 18 and 20 tho, and overall all twenty were great.
The simple beauty of Neruda's poems reminds the reader just how poor a poet William Carlos Williams is.
i'm currently not yet at a level to absorb fully the beauty of poems. yet, i already know there's immense beauty and handsomeness inside this Pablo Neruda piece.

Neruda es un genio, indudablemente, y me ha parecido precioso. Si no me ha gustado tantísimo es porque últimamente busco identificarme con los poemas más que sentirlos en sí (sobre todo si son de amor), y sentía demasiada tristeza en los versos! Pero el 20 es una obra maestra
