I am going to preface this by saying, if you loved this book… I love that for you (and I’m sorry).

This book might have been marginally better had I not listened to the audio and read the physical material instead but… only marginally.

I won’t go on and on about what I didn’t like about it. The audiobook itself is just VILE and hands down one of the top 3 worst audiobooks I’ve ever listened to… but the story itself had a lot of issues, too. But at least it if I had read it with my eyes, I wouldn’t have had to listen to nineteen, yes nineteen, hours of some guy sounding like a bad Disney villain.

I didn’t grow to like or become attached to a single main character. I couldn’t stand Roxy… she’s not funny? But generally all of the dialogue was kind of cringeworthy. The chemistry to me wasn’t very believable and I didn’t feel like the characters really had any growth or actually showed signs of emotional depth. I just wasn’t a fan of the way any of them were written.

But for a book that was clearly written with a loose plot simply to set up some kinky RH smut? It did its job. There is most definitely smut and no shortage of it!

I also learned that if I’m going to commit to a gigantic book with a bunch of dudes banging one girl… I think I actually prefer some sword crossing. It’s more fun. 😋

In the words of the great Cardi B, “WHAT WAS THE REASON!!!” Those are the only words that come to mind when I think about what I just read. I like dark. I like spicy. But this… is neither? It has dark themes, topics, and people. But it’s written in a lighthearted way? That’s the only way to explain it. It’s a wattpad romance in the guise of a dark smut novel. I tried to keep my expectations light but these characters weren’t evil. Honestly all four men were teddy bears. It is also not spicy in the traditional sense. There isn’t a lot of buildup or anticipation. Not a lot of witty back and forth or longing. It pretty much just jumps straight to smut and stays there the entire almost 700 pages. I hate DNFing a book and this one is talked about so much that I felt I had to finish it at least. But again,, what was the reasonnnnnnn.

This might be the first smut book I read that absolutely bored me during the scenes.

I loved Roxy’s street smarts, and now she knows how to navigate through scary situations. Other than that the story just felt rushed and too long at the same time. Getting kidnapped and then falling in love with your captors in a week?? WEIRD. I was hoping for a good mafia-type plot but it fell flat there. This book should’ve been 300 pages and not 600+ I couldn’t wait for it to end

This book felt very repetitive once I hit the halfway mark. It could have easily been compressed into 300ish pages. I enjoyed it here and there but in the end it really was a mission to finish it.
