Not the Witch You Wed

April Asher

3.74 AVERAGE

3.5 star read for me.

I read it fast. I like the build up and the characters. I loved the enemies to lovers/second chance romance, the main and side characters, and some of the witty banters.

But something about the terms, politics and atmosphere of the world and background didn't really sit as good with me as the characters and dialogue.

Not the Witch You Wed is one of those books that will be an instant recommendation to friends asking for a light-hearted book to read with romcom vibes. I loved that the main character was plus sized & the love interest was traditionally attractive. The world that the book is set in is a world where magic and paranormal beings are free to be themselves and don't have to hide which was so refreshing compared to most paranormal based books.

This book made me laugh out loud, cry, and feel all the things. I can't wait for the next book in the universe :)

I really enjoyed this beautiful story of childhood sweethearts coming back into each other’s lives and finding their love again 🥰

This book was a contemporary paranormal romance for the ages! He’s an alpha wolf and she’s an alpha witch. They fit so well together 🥰🥰

I liked the ups and downs of the story. Loved watching them reconnect and find each other in each other ❤️

This book was super cute and I really enjoyed reading it. If you're looking for a deep, meaningful read, this isn't it. But if you want a fun, light-hearted paranormal romance, I would recommend it!

I received an eARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

3.5, rounded up. I'm not usually a big second-chance romance fan, but there's less pining in this one and more hilarity and action, so for me this was a hugely entertaining story that I was able to read quickly. Asher throws a lot of information and supernatural-related rules at the reader at the beginning of the book, which was a little surprising, but I was able to pick up on everything after reading a bit more. I appreciated Violet as a strong, intelligent heroine who comes into her own regarding her magic and figuring out her place in the world--and, of course, she's able to tell off Lincoln and other folks at the appropriate moments.

This was my last read of Spooky Season, and I'd recommend it to those looking for a fun paranormal romance that doesn't take itself too seriously (and is light on the Spookiness).

I did not know what to expect with this, but I'm happy I trusted the booktoker who recommended it. This was such a cute story, with great world building and relationship progression. I loved that the world felt established but was still easily understandable, and the plus size witch was adorable. I feel like sometimes fat rep in romance books can be either a bit sad/insecure or over the top, and though it was mentioned that she was a larger girl, it wasn't her whole personality. This is childhood friends/lovers second chance romance with an added dash of fake dating. Recommended for fans of the Stay a Spell series by Juliette Cross and The Fix It Witches by Ann Aguirre 4.5⭐
