A really lovely anthology from powerhouse Black women writers, discussing their literary loves and the impact of representation in stories on their lives. I loved sitting with this book.

If you're like me and want to know what writers read, and how they're influenced by other writers, you'll enjoy this book. It has essays by an amazing list of writers, including some favorites of mine, with a theme of seeing themselves reflected in the writing of others. The fact that the contributors are from a variety of generations and backgrounds makes it all the more interesting.

4.5 stars. Great collection of essays by various writers about black females finding representation in literature. This was great and there are a lot of recommendations of books by black female writers as well.

My fuzzy brain caused by certain conditions in my life right now will not allow me to focus on an anthology, and it's due back at the library.

I definitely think it would've been five stars if I were reading it physically rather than audibly. I love Toni Morrison, Zora Neale Hurston, Roxane Gay, bell hooks, etc. and they were all mentioned several times in various essays throughout this anthology. I loved hearing Black voices speak out about their culture, their experiences, their hardships, and how books/authors have impacted their lives. I will probably purchase a physical copy of this book in order to get a more thorough reading experience with it.
