This book is definitely darker than Pride and Prejudice. Anne is such a different character from Elizabeth, she is almost a nobody in her own family, and yet is so reasonable and sensible all the time. She suffered a lot through the book. Had it been written by someone other than austen I'd have a hard time finishing it. Only Austen's prose carried this one.
