i expected to be bored cause its a classic novel written in the 1800s but oh well, how wrong i was! i was on the edge of my seat the whole time. i think what the author portrays very well is the selfishness of human nature.. it’s like romance but without the romance filter on, it’s not pretty, it’s brutal cause love is selfish and cruel.. i think the book begs a reread, i am so impressed and i think i need to read again to fully comprehend the complexity of it. my only complaint is the way the characters are dying, its like they died cause they sad  and didnt eat for 3 days hmmm… and the ghost/spooky aspect also a bit hard to buy but oh well, this is gothic! i think without the supernatural aspect, our coveting is scary enough

In my high school this was the only classic English novel that was a required reading and I really have to wonder why. All characters are unlikeable and the struggle that the writing, names and plot demand won’t lead students to venture into more of the classics. With that said, I really didn’t like it in high school, and kept putting off re-reading it. However I’m really glad I did. Though contemptuous, I found Heathcliff’s passionate and tempestuous love for Catherine strangely attractive. For weeks I’ve had the iconic “I am Heathcliff!” line in my head. One of my favorite classics, 5/5
