Tartuffe

Hilarious critique of religious hypocrisy.

a play we had to read for World Lit, I enjoyed it very much so

I liked this a lot, especially the beginning where there were parts that legitimately made me laugh out loud, which is something that doesn't happen very often to me. The writing is really clever (and the translation was SO good) and I found this play to be a really interesting commentary on an often present hypocrisy amongst certain religious people, especially back in the day. The reason I'm not giving it 5 stars tho is that, while the message is on point, how we got there was kinda bland, the whole story is pretty basic and should have been more interesting. Nonetheless, it was a very enjoyable read.

Quite liked this book. It only loses a star because I already knew the ending which took some of the suspense away. Moliere is truly an amazing storyteller and he had me inwardly shouting in frustration at the actions of Orgon and his blindness and totally taken aback by the cunning of Tartuffe. Brilliant play

Revisiting this old chestnut. First read it for a lit class. Reread it en Français a few years later. Quick refresher just now.
