I don't usually leave reviews on books, however this one warranted one. Yes, it was THAT bad.

I pulled out the lollipop I still had in my pocket and tore off the wrapping paper before sucking on it. The sweet and sour cherry taste melted in my mouth, making me feel like my tongue just experienced an orgasm."

.....I'm sorry, NEVER has sucking a lollipop made my tongue feel like I had an orgasm. Like??? Also this book is supposed to be a murder mystery, is it not? What's with all the smut?? And it's not even GOOD.
I feel like the author was trying too hard to make the mmc all stoical and 'morally grey' and whatever. The smirking and 'dark gaze' got annoying reaaalll quick. And honestly his brother was just kind of...useless. and annoying.
The big plot twist didn't even feel like a plot twist, it was just so obvious to me.
Spoiler I mean, I suspected Samantha the ENTIRE time. She was just so vague. And Cora being blackmailed? Really? That was just lame.

Also why couldn't the characters ever use contractions?? Even when they were being informal or casual, they always said "I will", full form. Excuse me, but I thought they were college friends, not business partners.
And did no one find it weird that the mmc/love interest was the fmc's moms boyfriend's son? No? Just me? Okay.

Overall the premise was promising, but the writing style and ending just didn't hit. It was just disappointing, especially because I kept thinking of DNFing but kept giving it the benefit of doubt.

uhhhh this is a hard book to rate bc whilst i enjoyed certain parts of it, some of it seemed so rushed - almost like the author just wanted to combine a few of their fav troupes and mix them up

Our Darkest Summer is the perfect mix between romance and mystery. It will have you giggling and smiling and three seconds later doubting everything and coming up with theories.

It's an amazing book that takes you with a new (and old) group of friends that go around town solving the disappearance of the mom of two of them, while making new friendships and creating bonds that will make you soft.

I can't recommend this enough if you are looking for a spicy romance that also has a bigger plot and will make it impossible to put the book down until you finish it.

Actually it's not the best book ive read this year and as my first time reading a book with smut included, I sure wont do it again, but still, I think its a really nice book to get out of a reading slump(ive been in one for a good while and i really wanted a nice book to get back to reading) so, over all, its a nice read that i could advise to thrill lovers!

Its giving ‘good girls guide to murder’ x ‘the naturals’ with a super fun found family & engaging plot! such a quick read, I could not put it down! I like to think I’m pretty good at guessing plot twists but there were def some I did not see coming at all, such a good little summer mystery romance!! I loooved the photos of the newspaper articles & journal entries, that was so fun
