An aspiring young violinist is gifted with his G-Grandpa's fiddle that turns out to be a Stradivarius. That's good and bad. Hilarity does not ensue. This is a brilliant 5-star read that is part family drama, part family history, part human nature. It illustrates why everyone needs a mentor, someone who believes in them. Also, don't sleep on the Author's Note.

Ray is an extremely talented violinist with a very rare, antique violin. Before the biggest competition of his life, the violin is stolen. Who is the culprit? His family, the original owners of the violin, a competitor? This was compelling, fast-paced and I could not put it down. So good.

Ugh. This writing was elementary at best and yet also sexist. So maybe I read a different book than everyone else?
