After reading the first book in the series, I knew Metro 2034 wouldn't be a typical dystopian thriller. And yet, it still managed to defy my expectations. Like its predecessor, it's slow, atmospheric, and extraordinarily well written. But while the first book focused more on exploration and world-building, this one turns its gaze inward, offering long, contemplative passages on mortality, human nature, and the divinity of art. I felt this introspective style suited the melancholy tone of the Metro universe, though at times, the plot did perhaps stall a bit too much. Even so, the remarkably beautiful writing and the heavy, immersive atmosphere made it a deeply enjoyable read for me.
