An important lesson told in a typical Cecelia Ahern/s way.
Though Lucy was an irritating liar at first her realization was gradual and changes were acceptable.
Though Lucy was an irritating liar at first her realization was gradual and changes were acceptable.
"These are very acceptable things in modern society. You're sick; you go to the doctor, you get antibiotics. You're depressed; you talk to a therapist, they might give you anti-depressants. Your greys show; you get your color done. But with your life you make a few bad decisions, get unlucky a few times, whatever, but you have to keep going, right? Nobody can see the underneath part of who you are, and if you can't see it- if an x-ray and a camera can't take a picture of you- in this day and age the belief is, its not there. But I am here. I'm the other part of you. the x-ray to your life. A mirror is held up to your face, and I'm the reflection, I show how you're hurting, how you're unhappy. Its all reflected on me. Make sense?"
Yllätys yllätys, Ahern ei petä. Varsin älykäs tarina siitä, kuinka ihmiset teeskentelevät asioita ja ignooraavat oman hyvinvointinsa ymmärtämässä sitä varsinaisesti.
So this week I read The Time of My Life
It is the story of Lucy Silchester, who returns from work one day to find an invitation to a meeting with her Life. From the back:
It sounds peculiar, but Lucy's read about this in a magazine. Anyway, she can't make the date: she's much too busy despising her job, skipping out on her friends and avoiding her family.
But Lucy's life isn't what it seems. Some of the choices she's made - and stories she's told - aren't what they seem either. From the moment she meets the man who introduces himself as her life, her stubborn half-truths are going to be revealed in all their glory - unless she learns to tell the truth about what really matters to her.
How are you treating your life?
What I loved so much about The Time of My Life
How are you treating your life? Your hopes and dreams? Yourself?
What "little lies" are you telling?
A huge part of Lucy's story is that she told one lie, which let to another and yet another, until her life is tied up in one big knot and she's shut herself off from her friends and family.
What white lies are you telling others? Yourself?
Be the best you can be
The Time of My Life
As long as you're around, your life is too. So just as you shower lover and affection and attention on the husbands, wives, parents, children and forever friends who surround you, you have to do so equally with your life, because it's yours, it's you, and it's always there rooting for you, cheering you on, even when you feel like you can't do it. I gave up on my life for a while, but what I've learned is that even when that happens and especially when that happens, life never ever gives up on you. Mine didn't. And we'll be there for each other until those final moments when we will look at each other and say, 'Thanks for staying until the end.'
And that's the truth.
How are you treating your life and yourself?
Do you read chick-lit, or what kind of books do you prefer?
This book was okay. There were times I didn't want to read it anymore because the main character was just driving me nuts. I loved everything about Life. Life made this book worth reading. I may read this one again just to give it another shot.
This books seems to polarize readers though I am not sure why. I found this to be a refreshing take on a common story. There were certainly times when I wanted to smack the crap out of Lucy for her stupidity and for her knack of taking something simple and making it unnecessarily complicated. Overall a really nice read. Nothing that will change your life but it was enjoyable.

This. I have a feeling this is either a hit or miss, and for me it was a hit. It had me giggling, laughing and tearing up. All those witty remarks, the sassy moments and the relatable emotions, this book surely is one emotional rollercoaster of up's and down's - it's life. Ironically.
A feel-good gem of a story hidden in a not-so-typical chick-lit novella.
