I literally started reading this over a year ago and just got around to finishing it. I absolutely love the artwork in these comics, but sometimes I get a bit lost in the story.
This series continues to be one of the most remarkable graphics being produced. It unfolds with the complexity and detail of a full fantasy novel accompanied by absolutely stunning artwork.
With the length of time between volumes, it does strike me as a bit of a task to keep up with the full scope of the story and the characters involved, but Liu does well tying the various story threads together. Monstress is a dark, sometimes unsettling high fantasy adventure with quietly effective moments of occasional humor. The characters are rich, the world is epic in scope, and the stakes are real from the very first page. This is fantasy and graphic novel writing done well.
And in the midst of the world-spanning adventure and warfare that defines this series, Liu never loses sight of the individual characters--or the moments of real (sometimes heartbreaking) emotion that give a story like this real power. Each volume feels distinct but continues the plot with clear pacing and a resounding conclusion that leaves you wanting more. It's difficult to tell where this story is going, but I'm excited to be along for the experience.

The only characters I really care about at this point are Kippa and Ren. The rest of the journey is starting to get a little long in the tooth for me and at this point I'm starting to hope that the end of the story comes sooner rather than later.

Relies too much on info-dumping text because the complexity of the story is too great to convey through plot.
The art is still stunning but the fight scenes are too detailed to follow properly. Everything is a bit messy when things happen quickly.
This series has been consistently good so far but still hasn't really hooked me. Maika is not exactly a fountain of emotion so it's hard for me to truly care about her. I do love Kippa though!

Може, далося взнаки, що попередню частину я читав дуже давно, але дуже важко зрозуміти, що відбувається. У загальних рисах начебто все зрозуміло, але приблизно половину сторінок мені доводиться пригадувати, хто ці персонажі, чого вони хочуть, і чи з'являлися вони в коміксі колись до цього. Але картинки просто надзвичайні.
