I LOVE THIS SERIES!
SpoilerIt seems my gaydar is on point as always — I knew there was (had been?) something between Maika and Tuya! Can’t wait to see what happens when Maika learns about that betrayal…
Finally, more of Zinn’s past was revealed! Love the development of Zinn’s relationship with Maika — they make a great (and crazy-powerful) team! That cliffie, though!

This is the ultimate Silk Punk Cthulhu talking-animal Fantasy adventure, as far as I’m concerned. I don’t know how all these moving parts work, but they do. Body horror + steampunk + demonic possession + waking dreams + robots, not to mention the two-tailed talking cats who are playing games beyond the enormous war between the humans, anthropomorphic critters, demons and mysterious organizations.

It almost feels like you intuit this story rather than read it, but it’s pretty straightforward. The only reason I give this 4 stars rather than 5 is because there are too many things left unsaid between characters and too many questions left unanswered about the history of the world and the nature of the conflict. But boy it sure makes me want to read the next volume!

I also kinda want a wine red overcoat like Maika Halfwolf’s, so much so that I just spent 40 minutes looking at them online. That’s a testament to Sana Takeda’s cool art. Takeda manages to evoke all the weirdness while mostly keeping the story and action clear. That’s a real feat.

I found that this volume was a little less cohesive than the other two. I wasn't sure what happened during the climax of the story. I'm hoping it gets explained in later volumes.

The art was gorgeous as usual!

I loved loved loved this. It answered a lot of questions about the origins of the gods, the characters are finally gelling and talking to one another, and the art was amazing as always.

I stand by 4⭐️on my reread. This is still epic, but feels a bit like the second book in a trilogy, despite this being many more volumes. The plot moves forward and we’re getting info but it’s bridging a gap. That said, the side characters continue to be the best, particularly the entire pirate crew. Intrigued by a moment evocative of Buddy/The First Slayer but with the Shaman Empress. & Ren and Kippa have my whole heart.

This volume was a little more confusing as to what was actually happening. The mask is starting to become a bigger plot device and Zinn is super sassy so we love that for him. Not sure what the end game is but we’ll keep reading and see.

I don't always understand everything but I think I get enough. It's a deep and complex world with wonderful messages and thought-provoking. And i'm falling in love with the characters. Maika, Kippa, Ren <3 And it makes me cry. I mean that isn't hard to do, but still.
