I didn't enjoy The Next Person You Meet in Heaven as much as I wanted to. I loved the first book and gave it 5 stars, and the sequel had an even higher rating on Goodreads - so my expectations were high. Unfortunately, I feel like this book lacked the X factor that The Five People You Meet in Heaven had. It was more repetitive than I would have liked, and I wish Eddie had a larger role in the story instead of a brief cameo.

However, I will say that Cleo the dog's heaven made me tear up. It was such a wholesome notion and, as a dog lover, I can attest to the feeling of love you and your pet get when you walk through the front door.

This book definitely broke me last night as I read farther into the night than I was planning because I needed to know what happened in the end. This book takes place a little over 20 years after the first one and expands upon the idea of the five people you meet in heaven and exactly who can qualify as the people you meet.

After reading this, I am so thankful for Albom for deciding to create the sequel we never thought we would get but all truly wanted after finishing The Five People You Meet in Heaven. This book touches on a wide variety of diverse topics including trauma, depression, pregnancy, death (as in dealing with the death of others in your life), relationships, guilt and more. If you cried in the first book, be prepared for the flood gates to open. This is an emotional rollercoaster that pushes you to think more on yourself and reflect how your actions influences those around you but also how the past impacts your future (even if you don't have a direct connection to it).

Loved the first book, of course. This one was a bit harder for me to read. There were lots of emotional moments. There were some long-drawn scenes. But, all in all, it was still a good read, as expected from Mitch.
