I feel like the book was completely different from the idea I had in my mind when I first read the synopsis. This book sounded SO exciting, but there wasn’t much “action” until the very end. The rest was just a bit slow, with puzzling pieces piling higher and higher. Love a good mystery, but it kind of fell flat for me, unfortunately — I just wish it would’ve had a little something more.

Cool idea, not super well written. I liked the girlcrush aspect.

Pretty cool lil Sci Fi tale. Not extraordinarily fancy, but it’s definitely a unique plot line and I enjoyed seeing how this one would pan out. The 90s was a glorious time for the genre and I really enjoyed the nods to 90s culture- the video stores on every block and the butterfly hair clips that were so popular. I could picture it vividly and love reading about these times, as I grew up during them myself. It was difficult to even visualize the monsters because I’d never heard anything remotely close to how the author must have worked them out in her head, but I pictured something like Falkor from Neverending Story. Also, how terrible was Grammy? I despised her from the jump, but her behavior by the end had me floored. She went far above any expectations I had set for her in terms or how useless she was. Maybe I’m supposed to sympathize with her, but nope.

This was such a fun read! It was described as genre bending and I think that fits it perfectly! It has a little bit of everything - aliens, changing timelines, mystery, romance! I honestly couldn’t put it down!

„Forget This Ever Happened“ is a stand-alone paranormal/mystery novel by Cassandra Rose Clarke.

Claire is shipped off to Texas for the summer, in order to help her sick grandmother around the house. But Indianola isn’t a town like any other, strange things are happening here and both those occurences and the memories thereof seem to be confined to the city limits.
Julie works as an exterminator during the summer, only she has to deal with a different kind of vermin than one would expect.
Their lives are linked in ways the two girls did not expect with ties way back into the past…

It’s been quite a few years since I last read a book by Cassandra Rose Clarke, so I was quite eager to dive into „Forget This Ever Happened“.
Sadly, I have to admit that I did not enjoy it even half as much as would have liked. Somehow, this book felt very lengthy, even though it’s rather short. The town this story is set in could have been interesting if it had been explored more.
The biggest problem, for me, is the complete lack of authenticity and depth, regarding both the plot and the characters. Julie and Claire, the two main characters, are some of the blandest, most repetitive and most annoying characters whose perspectives I’ve ever read from. I did not care what happened to them and was not invested in their lives at all.
The overall storyline sounded very intriguing to me when I first read the blurb, but it really isn’t executed well. I was confused pretty much from start to finish and wanted to dnf this book plenty of times.

In conclusion, I was intrigued by the premise of this book, but due to its lackluster execution did not enjoy it in the end, unfortunately.

This was such a fun book with a totally tangible 90s vibe.

Claire is being forced to spend the summer taking care of her ailing grandmother in Indianola, Texas for the entire summer. With a mom who doesn’t seem to care dropping, her off to a grandmother that Claire barely knows and who seems to care for her about as much as her mother does, Claire is dreading the summer in a town that is desolate and too dang hot! She longs for the town she left behind and the boy who takes up all the space in her mind.

But, it doesn’t take long for Claire to meet a couple of townspeople, Audrey, the peppy blonde who wants to show her around town and Julie, the mysterious grunge girl who shows up at her house as the exterminator when Claire finds a read deal MONSTER in her grandmother’s backyard.

Apparently, the town is inhabited by strange creatures and it’s just... NORMAL. They don’t hurt you. There is a treaty, of course. But, outside the town limits, you forget about the monsters.

Filled with some strange and detailed family history, creepy memory loss that slips through your fingers like remembering a dream and a possible budding relationship, this book had me fully entertained from beginning to end!
