read for class—
as sleepy hollow (1999) directed by tim burton is one of my favorite movies, i was very excited to see the source material on one of my syllabi for the semester.
and while it was fun it wasn’t quite what i was expecting. the class i read it for is a gothic horror short story class and this one felt more sleepy (haha get it?) than actual horror. i understand that you have to look at the time it was written and think about what was viewed as scary, but even then…
it felt overly descriptive for no reason and didn’t really get to the meet of the story until 5 pages before the end.
i did still enjoy it and had some fun reading, just not what i was expecting i guess

Despite its reputation as a gothic/horror story, I didn't find it to be anything close to either of those genres. Not that I'm trying to challenge the fact that it's a classic—in fact, it's very deserving of that title considering its wonderful descriptive imagery. What I did not expect was how incredibly entertaining and down-right hilarious ! it would be. If anything, this amazing short story was peak comedy, and Ichabod—what a hateable douche—totally deserved what was coming to him.

I've read this before, but first time listening to the audiobook. The language is cumbersome enough that it trips up the narrative. I would recommend reading it instead.
