I typically am not interested in science fiction, or sports novels, but this novel was compelling and had just enough noir to get me by. I loved the world and the characters, the way the author described different ways in which society changed in his world. The main character is a deadbeat who takes a beating throughout and something about the writing just keeps you going. I'd like to see a sequel sometime in the future to explore more of this brilliant world.

A snappy dystopian noir, love me a detective who isn’t. I’m not a baseball fan but I enjoy hearing about it, if that makes sense? I appreciate that it ends the way it gotta, keeping the noir line of no real happy endings but satisfying enough ones.

Interesting ideas, but the worldbuilding seemed more important than the story itself. The depth of the characters remains at a superficial level throughout and is only concerned with whether they have upgrades or not, or if they've been engineered somehow.

Too many similes for my taste.

Think Blade Runner meets Money Ball… and Deckard’s a baseball scout for a pharmaceutical company. The Body Scout, a cyberpunk detective noir, is beautifully written, full of interesting characters and clever world-building. The story reads like a noir mystery, but the strength of the novel lies in the journey you take through this near future world, and less on solving a mystery (although that was well executed as well). Maybe it’s just a case of reading the right book at the right time, but this was a fun smart sci-fi read that was truly enjoyable (and if you are an audiobook reader, the performance was excellent and enhanced the story).

Chaotic writing, too much info dump. Stopped when he got to the sex dungeon

Surprisingly gripping. Lincoln Michel LOVES a smilie - like really really loves them.

It’s a better read once you accept that Kobo isn’t really the main character - he’s just another pawn in the game of life who’s really going through a lot. Whilst charismatic at points, he isn’t greatly likeable because he too has fallen into the trap of the systems that, as a reader, you can see are corrupt. Maybe that’s the point.

Slightly disappointing end that feels a little bit like a loose end collection & tie up - but I suppose all stories must end!

No spoilers.
Found this to be a quick read with some really fun imaginative descriptions of the future. Author paints a picture of an interesting future society while moving the plot along and introducing characters simultaneously.
