Michelle Obama

It was so good. The insight that she gives about society, culture, and the way that we treat women and minorities is something that everyone should read.

I also liked that while she discussed the presidency of Obama, she made sure to continue to keep the focus on her and how she adapted into the White House lifestyle.

I will begin by saying I am a fan of Michelle Obama. Therefore, this review may sound biased. After reading this book, I am an even bigger fan.
Becoming is an autobiography of Michelle Obama. It spans from her earliest memories in childhood to present day. She starts the book in the present and just strolls down memory lane.
The best part of this book is you feel as if you are there for every experience. The imagery she portrays is so beautiful and while there is less of the imagery as the book progresses, I like it to the way we view life as we age. When we are going we notice the smells, the tastes, all the feel ings but as we age we are more focused on the events at hand and every once in a while we stop and take in the scenery. Michelle Obama makes you care as about her close family as she shows you how they impacted her life.
Reading this book made me realize just how great ordinary women can be and the way ordinary women can become extraordinary simply by the choices they make in every day life.

Obama is a marvelous storyteller. Her patient, self-aware, and above all empathetic narration traverses the unique landscape of both American identities and the ups and downs of simply being human. Her insight into the African-American experience, i.e. the role community plays in shaping dreams and lifestyles alike, is an important perspective that I am glad has gotten such a prominent voice. I feel like I came away from it with a lot of valuable time thinking not only about the remarkable power that Michelle sharing her experience can have, but also about my own identity as an American and what I can do to be more comfortable with myself and have an impact on the communities I am a part of. Really great stuff.

michelle obama the woman you are… sixth grade me felt so woke reading this, and i still do. although it is a memoir, it’s genuinely interesting and doesn’t feel like “i was the first lady of the US, read my book pls,” she talks about her struggles growing up poor and black in america, and how those struggles made her the woman she is today. michelle i love you, you are such an icon.

Highly recommend listening to the audiobook for the most authentic version of this story. I mean, Michelle Obama is a national treasure. Fight me. Becoming gives insight into life, love, hope, beginnings, and endings. I loved it.

Impressive First Lady, well-written book, a bit voluminous, but very easy to read. The struggles of being both female and black were and are real for Michelle Obama in all stages of her life, but she soldiered on and showed her strength. Inspiring mostly because she relentlessly comes back to the question what she can contribute to society, accepting great personal costs at times.

The book is sometimes a bit polished, Oprah style, but it does have a ring of reality about it. Worth the read even if you just want to immerse yourself in the time it seemed the USA might be on the path to openness and honesty across their party lines, willing to put their country first.

"It’s all a process, steps along a path. Becoming requires equal parts patience and rigor. Becoming is never giving up on the idea that there’s more growing to be done."

This book offered a more humanizing perspective in contrast to Barack’s. However I appreciated that Michelle’s policies and accomplishments were placed center stage. I think she’ll be remembered as a key figure in the movement towards healthier eating and obesity reduction that our country is currently going through.
