This wasn’t my favorite horror book of all time. I enjoyed the writing, but didn’t care for the gore. The dynamic between Vera and her parents intrigued me, but I felt like I didn’t get enough explanation as to why things went down the way they did with Vera’s past. The ending wasn’t what I expected, and I felt as though some of my questions were left unanswered.

The tip toeing around the MC’s past is annoying and feel predictable this book turns on it’s head so widly in the climax it makes the more predictable parts worth sticking out. The ending of this reminds me a lot of Jordan Peele’s Us in that it will turn off a lot to people but I am there for how insane it is. I cannot wait to read more from this author.

Audiobook read by Xe Sands.

First off, I really enjoy Sarah Gailey’s writing. She writes with a fluidity and description that lured me in. Pair that with Xe Sands narration and you’ve got yourself a winning duo.

The story though, felt slow to me. There were times where I was fully engaged and others where I didn’t know where I was in the context of the story. This really made it difficult for me to follow and perhaps would have been a better fit for me not as an audiobook.

Boring. Only the ending is interesting. I wouldn't have finished it if I hadn't been listening to it. It's not too long and I wouldn't pause it when I walked away.
