Leah's niece Amy died under mysterious circumstances. Leah wants to investigate what happened, however, she doesn't enjoy being with her family at the estate resort in Italy . Meanwhile, Jo, after breaking up with Luke, is melancholy about life and things that are happening at her university. After work, she goes to a pub, and meets the bartender. Oddly enough, they become acquaintances, and when Callum has an accident, Jo is the one that is called. As she struggles to trust Callum she finds out that he is involved in what happened in Italy.
I was hoping for more from this thriller.

Look, I get wanting to be nice but letting someone you met like 3 days ago stay in your house after a hit and run is a bit much to me...

I was SOOOOOOOOOOO looking forward to this book but the story was rather disappointing. Very slow moving and an overall lackluster plot. I could easily have skipped this one and not been sorry. The cover is amazing and was 100% the reason I picked this one up. Sadly a miss for me. Much thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review!

Thank you to NetGalley and G.P. Putnam’s Sons for providing a copy of the book for me to read in exchange for my honest opinion.

Synopsis: A year ago, Leah’s feisty 21 year old nice, Amy, mysteriously drowned in the beautiful lake near her family-owned resort in Northern Italy. Leah’s grief has caught up with her and she returns to Lake Ganda since Amy’s death. When she arrives, she finds the rest of her sister’s family has erased all memories of Amy and have fought to have Amy’s death ruled as an accidental, even under questionable circumstances. Leah knows she has to look beyond the resort’s beauty and discover what truly happened, even if doing so means digging into the family and putting her life in danger. Meanwhile, in Central England, Joanna is recovering from a surprising breakup when she is swept off her feet by a handsome bartender. When she learns he is running from something in his past and their meeting may not be a coincidence. What do these two women have to do with each other? Are they caught up in a dangerous conspiracy?

My Thoughts: The chapters are short, which I love, as it makes for a faster read. The POV is told from Leah, Amy, and Joanna. I really loved how the author took the viewpoints of Leah/Amy and Joanna, seemingly unconnected, and then intertwined them, it was beautifully written. While this was a slow burn at first, it did heat up and kept me engaged, and was a page turner. In the beginning, I could not see the connection, but the author does a beautiful job developing seemingly unrelated characters and building the suspense to connection. This is my first book from this author, but will not be my last. I loved her writing style, very creative and connecting. Highly recommend.

I was pleasantly surprised by this book! I was worried I wasn’t going to like it, but it was a good, quick read for me. There were some parts that were a little unbelievable, but overall I enjoyed the plot and suspense at the right time.

Featuring ~ multiple POV's ~ 1st person (Amy) & 3 person (Joanna & Leah), dual timeline, mystery

Joanna is fresh off a break up when she meets Callum. They've only had one date when he is involved in an accident. He doesn't have any next of kin and somehow Joanna is thrown into helping him heal by moving him in with her. What's up with this guy though, does he have an ulterior motive for wanting to be close to Joanna?

Leah is finally feeling like she is able to visit her family's resort a year after her niece, Amy, died there. She's not liking what she sees when she gets there and starts an investigation of her own to try to find out what really happened to Amy. I liked this part of the story.

This one was slow going for me. We knew that Joanna and Leah's lives would collide somehow, but it took a while to get there. I am so happy there was Amy's POV, so we had a better understanding of what happened to her. All in all a decent read.

I was able to listen to the final version on audio as well, so I went back and forth reading and listening. Sofia Zervudachi did a fine job narrating for 11 hours and 39 minutes, easy to follow at 2x.

*Thanks to PENGUIN GROUP Putnam, G.P. Putnam's Sons, the author and NetGalley for the ARC. I am voluntarily leaving my honest review*

Thank you to Ollie Martin at Hodder and Stoughton for my invitation to the blog tour and for my copy of book in return for a fair and honest review.

The story introduces us to two women, firstly Leah who is the aunt of Amy, who died the previous year in a drowning accident in Italy. The second woman is Joanne, she is a counsellor at a university and we meet her after an incident with a student at work, sends her to the local pub, where she meets a barman called Nate.

Joanne and Leah have never met so what is the connection between their two worlds? Jo is called by the hospital to say Nate has been involved in a serious accident and has given her address. She is shocked as she has only met him on a couple of occasions, and he ends up moving in with her but who is he and who wants to hurt him?

This is a great fast paced thriller and I really enjoyed the two settings of the mysterious villa, Il Mandarino on the shores of Lake Garda and in contrast Derby which really makes you question how there can be a connection ?

Leah returns to Italy to visit her sister Charlotte and niece Olivia they all seem to be distant and hiding something, do they know anything about Amy’s death ? There are so many red herrings in the book that I thought I had guessed what happened to Amy so many times and I was still surprised by the outcome. I liked the character of Joanne she is conflicted with her feelings for Nate as she is recovering from a spilt in a long term relationship with Luke. By the end of the book I did not know who to trust which I really liked. I picked this book up in the morning and I devoured it in one sitting. It’s a fantastic thriller that grabs you and doesn’t let you go until the end.
