When Lily Atwood was seven years old, her sister Cassie came home from college for winter break, but barely left her room...until the day she disappeared. Now Lily is an award-winning investigative journalist and she still wants to know what happened to the sister she had idolized years ago. However, “Perfect Lily” as the media refers to her, learns you need to be careful what you wish for.
This story is narrated by Lily, Lily’s producer Greer, and Cassie. Lily and Greer have been getting tips from an anonymous source that have ended up in fantastic stories. However, when the tip from “Mr. Smith” gets personal, the story really takes off. The characters aren’t always easy to connect with. Lily is intelligent and beautiful but can be snobby and too worried about appearances. Greer is also smart and works hard, but all of her talk of not being at all jealous of Lily seems to be a case of her protesting too much. Cassie makes terrible choices, but she was young when she made them. My favorite character in the book is Lily’s young daughter Rowen, who is smart and fun and not bratty in spite of her privileged upbringing.
The book is an intriguing page-turner but some parts are a bit over-the-top. It gets off to a great start, but toward the middle, the plot becomes convoluted, but picks up again towards the end as some unexpected twists are revealed. The book demonstrates the issues of fame, appearances on social media, and how difficult it is for celebrities to keep their personal life private, especially when children are involved. Overall, I enjoyed this interesting standalone thriller.

This book was so twisty! Just when you think that you have it all worked out, everything changes again. Fantastic read. I love it when a book continues to surprise you, right until the very end. The characters are not always likeable or trustworthy but that makes for a great story.
Lily Attwod appears to have the perfect life. She is happily the single mother to her little girl and has a blossoming career on TV as a reporter. There are Emmys on her shelf and she is much loved by her followers on Instagram. But when she was little, her older sister Cassie went missing from college. Over the years she has tried to find her without any luck, but now a source has a lead and Lily will do anything to find her. Along with her producer, she follows the clues and gets in deeper and deeper into the case.

Another suspense novel from Hank Phillipi Ryan that kept me guessing. I figured out some parts but she kept tricking me and taking me down one rabbit hole or other.
This is a story about an unsolved mystery that spans decades. It is a search for a missing link, a sister that disappeared so long ago in the dead of night.
Lily Atwood is a famous and recognizable reporter. She is the epitome of perfection, as a single mom, with an adorable daughter who loves penguins. As her producer likes to say “perfection is perception.”
But don't we all have secrets? What are Lily's secrets and what will she do to keep them hidden?
A wild ride, that went at breakneck speed at times and kept me guessing till the very end. And it kept me up at night.

Almost added a star because it's set in Boston.
The main message here is that no deep, dark secrets about your past will ever stay that way. Lily has one, and somehow her best anonymous source (she's a reporter) knows. He's all too aware of what's going on in Lily's daily life, almost as though he's pulling the strings. And then there's Greer: organized, competent producer Greer. Why would anyone like that be jealous of the face in front of all the reporting? Or someone who not only gets the awards but also has a perfect child and perfect au pair? This loses stars because some of the plot is just implausible, events that could have been stopped or avoided with just a little thinking and perhaps talking to the police. Or, you know, being honest and not trying to leave the past hidden.

I couldn’t put this down. It is the type of book that you need to keep reading. I really enjoyed it, but took off one star for the questions that I was left with. The twists were so wild that it seemed to not make sense and left me with too many questions at the end.
If you need books in which you need to love the main characters, this isn’t the book for you. The unlike-ability of the characters didn’t bother me since the story kept driving me to keep reading. Lily is a self-absorbed tv reporter who thinks she is much better at her job than she really is. (If she really is that great of a reporter, I think she would have done a little more investigation into her “source”.)
The story goes back and forth between the events in the past leading up to her sister’s disappearance and the current mystery. This format worked well and kept me interested in the story. That said, the actual story of her sister’s disappearance is a little ridiculous. I found it hard to believe her sister was that naive. I know she was only 18, but c’mon.
Overall, I gave it four stars because it did keep me interested and I couldn’t put it down. It requires a big suspension of belief, however.

On the outside Lily Atwood appears to be living her best life, an award winning journalist with an adorable daughter.
One day when her anonymous source Mr. Smith who helped her break a story and win her award , threatens to reveal a secret from her past she feels like her life begins to crumble. What she doesn’t know is that the source has also hooked her producer Greer into his plot.
Beneath her perfect persona know one knows that’s at the age of seven, her beloved sister Cassie just up and disappeared after she had told Lily she had done something she couldn’t apologize for. Soon Lily finds herself on a path to unravel what had happened to her sister and doing everything to protect her daughter. What really happened to Cassie twenty five years ago while she was at college? What does it have to with Lily now? Filled with twists and turns and dual time lines were taken for a crazy ride of deceit and lies! Four stars!

This started out good, but the way it ended felt very random. I felt like my brain was buffering.
It's a good book. Worth the time to read it. I just didn't like the way it ended

Thank you Netgalley, Macmillan and Tor/Forget for the review copy in exchange for an honest review.
First of all the narration was not my favorite, the voice used for the little girl was just somewhat cringe and made it hard to listen at points throughout the story.
As far as the story it was intriguing and I enjoyed the multiple POVs but I felt the plot moved too slow for me and it was not intriguing enough. There was too much unnecessary description and detail and not enough to move the plot along. In the first half of the book not much happened and at points, I was bored waiting for something or anything to happen. I would say this book was more mystery than thriller because there was nothing keeping me on the edge of my seat until the end with an unexpected plot twist. I did like how the story wrapped up at the end but getting to the end was a struggle.
Overall this book was just okay and not something I would recommend you have to go out and purchase right this second. But if you love a multi-POV very character driven mystery it might be a book you need to read right now!

Sigh, I wanted to like this because I really liked the blurb. I should start with this; there are two things that drive me crazy in thrillers. 1) When people talk to the cops without a lawyer or just trust the cops. My lawyer mother who, to be clear, is a prosecutor and therefore ostensibly on the side of the cops would be so disappointed in me if I ever did this ever. And have the rest of you not watched cop shows enough? Shut your damn mouth except to say I want a lawyer and then shut UP. 2) When authors truly change the bounds of social media and pop culture. Hire a 22 year old to read your book. Okay. So, Lilly is a local reporter on Channel 6 in Boston and has full on fans and I am sorry but that only tracks for National reporters. Katie Couric having her whole life scrutinized? Eh Probably, this girl who breaks stories of shoddy inspections of school cafeterias? I just don't buy it. And then say I do buy it, and Lily has dozens of Emmys for her investigative reporting? That woman doesn't get in anyones car without a background check, sorry not happening. So if details like this don't drive you crazy then you will find this fun, cuz it is fun. But I am an unfun deatils gal and this bugged the crap out of me.
