I hadn't realised initially that this was the third in a series, but I didn't need to read the others. All the detectives' back stories were explained, and they were extremely strong characters! All were immensely likeable, apart from Louise's husband!
There was so much attention to detail, and a very complex story woven beautifully. I did find it hard at times to remember characters and their role, but I feel this was my issue, as I have this difficulty pretty often.
Very gripping and secrets galore!

Louise has two personas, Drunk Louise and Sober Louise. And Drunk Louise tends to black out and Sober (or Hungover) Louise has to deal with the repercussions the next day. And in this case, it was waking up to a strange man in her bed, dead in a pool of blood. I mean, when I read that tag line I knew I had to read it, so thank you so much @michaeljbooks for sending me out this proof copy. And look at the title word play on that cover! Genius!
I loved the alternate chapters between real time and Louise’s letter to her husband. It’s rare that I read a book in second person, but it made it that bit more intense, I love that about it. I really had no idea where this one was going. Even when I only had 100 pages left, I still didn’t have a clue how the guy ended up in her bed and how he died! And when I finally did find out, it was a complete surprise, so well done Gytha, you well and truly flummoxed me!

This is a police procedural it’s part of a series book three but you could read it as a stand-alone though there is a lot of prior story threads concerning the officers involved so reading in order would probably give you more background and hence increase enjoyment. I’ve actually read the first book but not the second.
It’s told from multiple POV’s and focuses on Louise a woman in a dissatisfying marriage who relies on alcohol as a crutch. After a night out with her friend April, she awakens to find a dead man in her bed her memory of the previous evening a blank.
This had plenty of twists and turns and definitely kept you guessing it was well written and engrossing and I enjoyed it a lot. I also liked how the life’s of the officers investigating were woven into the narrative it brought them alive in my mind. The main character Louise was very imperfect but oh so easy to relate to we’ve all been Louise at some point. I definitely recommend if this is your bag it easily kept my attention till the very last page. I voluntary reviewed a copy of lie beside
me.

Won this book as a Goodreads Giveaway from Random House Book Club. I really enjoyed this thriller. I truly couldn't have guessed who the killer was until the last moment. The alcoholism was a bit tough to read about but didn't trigger me too much luckily. I didn't love the way Louise's relationship with her clearly emotionally abusive husband ended up.
