Good storytelling and easy to follow without having read the first two. However, it is was impossible to ignore that Louise moving Alex's body (without leaving obvious signs of the same) was completely unbelievable. Additionally, and maybe this is a cultural difference, it seems extremely unlikely that police would investigate a murder any further than finding a body, murder weapon, and suspect who lied about both.
This shocking who-dunnit is a page-turner that you won’t be able to put down. From the very start, the reader is taken down a dark journey when Louise wakes up to find a strange man in her bed. Even worse….the man is dead. From there, a twisty, turny path leads to a shocking ending. This wasn’t the first book in the series, but it was the first one I have read. Even without reading the other ins the series, however, it was very easy to understand what was going on. I highly recommend this book for fans of thrillers.

3.5 rounded up. This book was interesting in that it felt like half the book was written like the current hot psychological thrillers like girl on a train and the other half was the actual mystery. It was enjoyable enough though.
I would like to thank the publisher and author as well as Net Galley for providing a free e-copy of this book in exchange for my review. And I'm so grateful to Net Galley for introducing me to Gytha Lodge with the release of their first book! Because - wow!
This is the 3rd book in the DCI Johan Sheens series. Book 1 in the series was one of my first ARC;s from Net Galley and it blew me away. This one, still has that power! There are a lot of characters and backstory to the book, and that can be a bit confusing, but if you focus in on the victim and the investigation you can really get caught up in the story, and stay up far too late in the night, wanting to see what will happen next. Several times, I thought 'ok, I know where this is going, how it will be resolved' only to turn a page and get thrown for a twist. What a whirlwind!
No doubt, this is a 4 star book for me!

This book says it is DCI Jonah Sheens book. However, it is actually Louise's book. It is her story with all it's ups and downs. It leads us on a merry chase as we try to figure as we try to figure out what actually happened. There are lots of twists and turns and lots of people hiding things. But Louise's story finally becomes clear in the end. A good read.
When I first read this I wasn’t aware that it is part of a series let alone that it’s book 3... As with most cop focused series you don’t necessarily need to read them in order though and I didn’t feel like I was missing anything by jumping straight in with this one.
The book starts with Louise waking up and realising that she is in bed with a dead man and then cut to the Police turning up. Although the cops find the body in the garden which already sets alarm bells going in your head as you know something has happened!
As the police start to work the case we learn more about that Friday night and all the various people involved but instead of helping to solve the case it actually muddies things. I didn’t have a clue what was going to happen next and whether Louise was guilty or not and would not have guessed the ending at all.
I really liked Juliette Hanson - the main cop (or so I thought but it’s actually the Jonah Sheens series) and grew to like her more and more as the story progressed.
I’ve already ordered the other books from the library as I can’t wait to read more like this!

it's incredible how gytha lodge manages to get me this invested in characters i've only known for under 400 pages. it's not just the team i care about, it's all the people involved in the case - and this investment is such a great part of these books. i really care for all of these people, and the ending made me emotional once again
