Holy cow this book was a wild ride. It definitely didn’t disappoint, although I think the first one is my favorite so far.
Don’t want to give too much away as to spoil anything so I’m going to keep this review short and sweet.
1. The audiobook is phenomenal. It has a whole cast and sound effects.
2. I can’t pick a favorite character because they’re all so different and lovable.
3. I enjoyed seeing new sides to people and bounds growing.
4. Lastly the plot twist were wild!
Overall I’m really enjoying this series and I can’t wait for the 3rd book to come out to see how this trilogy comes to a conclusion.
adventurous challenging funny sad tense medium-paced

Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: Complicated
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

These second books don't have the best intentions in mind...a lot is fluff and filler for the culmination of what I believe is going to be book 3. fuxkinBook 1 was real good, novelty and all. I hate reading about teenagers because they're stupid, and even here they do have their moments not gonna lie.

One thing I want to point out and that annoyed the living daylights out of me is when the female characters keep pondering "what are we going to do now"?!? Yeah remember Reese Witherspoon's speech...yeah that ....not sure whose fault was that! Amy! ...

Idk I’m just not feeling this series. Like with the first one, the characters feel like just caricatures of their stereotypes. I would probably read the third one just to learn what happens though.

"Weakling."
"Yeah, yeah."
"Wretch."
"Shut up. Before I forget my manners."

What a psycho cliffhanger...

since reading aurora rising, the series quickly and unexpectedly became a favorite of mine. aurora burning only furthered this, bringing all the action and plot twists and humor i could have hoped for in a sequel. and that ending, oh my god that ending. it left me shocked, heartbroken, and basically a crying mess.

i feel like getting into specifics so let’s talk about my favorite characters. i loved zila’s character growth, how her chapters went from the previously one or two paragraphs to full on pages. finian, while not as present this time around, still delivered with the sarcasm and witty comebacks. as for tyler, he came as a complete (but welcome) surprise. seeing his scenes with saedii are probably what won me over.

despite that, though, there was one thing that really bothered me throughout the second half of the book. the reactions to kal’s “betrayal”. i can understand why scar would be upset, but for them to just ditch him because of one lie? after everything? and while i’m not the biggest fan of auri and kal, i still expected for her to at least hear him out.

that being said, i still enjoyed this book so much, it really felt like coming home. can’t wait for the third! no really, i can’t wait, please give it to me now.

I think I’m being kinda generous with the rating tbh. I liked parts of it and skimmed other parts. There were a couple of characters that were set up as important that I didn’t care about, so when bad things happened to them, I just didn’t care. On the other hand there were characters I loved that didn’t seem to have anything happen to them. Their chapters just seemed like fillers for the ‘main’ characters’ stories. This book didn’t hit the same as the first and the ending, while a cliffhanger, doesn’t having me dying for the last book to come out. Overall, I think it was a good book but it was disappointing compared to the first one.
