I'm gonna have to give up on this one. I can't stand the main character, and there's no way I want to read a whole book with her as the narrator. I don't like the writing style either. There are too many awkwardly phrased sentences, and it takes me out of the story (even though I don't want to be in the story to begin with).

I give the first half a 4, the second half a 2. I wanted more Kit and Athena in space or Eden. The Lair, rescue, and return fell completely flat for me.

I didn't expect to like this, and turned out liking it quite a lot. Highly recommend for those who like the sci-fi and paranormal romance genres, simply for a change of pace. All the right elements, and good handling of the wrong ones, if that makes any sense.

I like the first three quarters better. On the other hand, the last bit didn't play out as I feared it would, so that wasn't so bad. Also, hooray for not the start of a series!

Totally fun space opera! A kick-ass rebel heroine is attached while traveling with her father and rescued by one of the legendary darkship thieves who raid the power seed farms of her world. But has she gone from the frying pan into the fire? This one has great action, a nice bit of romance, and winning characters. Although light and fast-paced, Darkship Thieves has nice chewy center of ideas and relationships to satisfy.

A fun read with interesting ideas and twist and turn and technology and philosophy. But stupid. Idiotically stupid. Flaws that were just ridiculous and not just one or two. 3 of 5.

This was a fun sci fi adventure with some really interesting ideas, like trees that grow in space and produce power pods as fruit. My rating is really closer to 3.5 stars, and I kind of want to give it four, but I don't think I can because of the tropey romance and the way the main character's story arc goes. I loved the book in the beginning, but by the middle it kind of settles into space adventure/romance cliches. That doesn't mean it's bad or not enjoyable or that there aren't still a ton of surprises waiting, but I had some trouble getting over those things. I guess the romance aspect was just a little too overpowering for me. I like my science fiction a little heavier on the action, a little lighter on the romance. But there's still plenty of action here. I'll probably read the next book in the series, because the concepts Hoyt presents are fresh and interesting, and I'm curious to see where she takes them.

So the cover accurately guides you to the level of nudity in this one, but other than that it's a clean read, no bedroom scenes. I really liked the world development in this book. It's got enough variety and backstory to support a series.

A lovely story and great characters but could have been better written.
