3.5 stars—This was a really cute take on Greek mythology! I loved the focus on friendship and wanting to fit in. It was a bit confusing at first bc I couldn’t tell if everyone was pretending Greek mythology wasn’t real, or if Karen was supposed to be aware of her new life, and that wasn’t made clear until a third of the way through the book. I also feel like, aside from referring to the school as “junior high” there was nothing particularly about it that distinguished it from high school. The cast of characters definitely behaved and spoke like they were in high school rather than middle school, so I’m not really sure why it wasn’t just written in a high school setting. Nevertheless, still really enjoyed it and look forward to the next installment!

Not bad, felt like it was trying to ape chynna clugston's comics. Aimed at very young audiences as the edges of the mythology has all been sanded down.

Fun, light middle grade mystery with a slightly modern twist on the Greek gods/goddesses. Set up for a fun sequel in the minotaur's maze. Medusa was ADORABLE.

I tried to like this one, I really did. I loved the premise, and the whole ordeal. It had a good plot. But it was just dull. It felt like every other greek mythology run-off story out there, and I just couldn't get into it.

A hilarious and fun book about a girl going to live on Olympus with her very sparkly dad and finding out that gods and goddesses are real, and oh yes, her dad is like the boss. I had tons of fun reading this one, especially when Medusa made her way in. But the other parts were fun as well, see Karen get used to the whole new situation, learn about gods/goddesses (I would have been very sus from the start given EVERYONE has a name like in mythology ), learn new things at school and get used to the school itself (it is such a maze), and more. I loved Zed, he was just so sparkly and funny. Though I wish he had talked to Karen before she found out the truth via her friends. Come on dude.
Loved seeing Medusa's backstory and I love seeing Karen help her out.
Great art!
I definitely want more! Especially with THAT ending.

I picked this up at the local library to review for use in my 6th grade classroom (we study Ancient Greece later in the school year).

The Good: I definitely think this book will appeal to 6th graders (as well as 11-13 year olds). The characters are quirky and relatable. The depiction of middle school life and friendships (with a handful of fantasy/mythology) is believable. I loved the different body types and the different take on Medusa (no spoiler). I would recommend this book to kids that know a little about Greek mythology or as a precursor to the Percy Jackson series.

The Questionable: The timeline... I could not get over how the gods were teenagers because they were bored, but didn't know what "monster" could turn other beings into stone... It didn't make sense to me that the gods were in school studying the history of mythological Greece... Hadn't they already lived that experience- many times over? If Karen didn't know how to use a bow and arrow why was she reaching for a bow and arrow in her first day of P.E.? I did my best to ignore these discrepancies and focused more on the friend relationships and solving the mystery.

Overall, I think this book will appeal to middle grade and middle school readers.

Cute art, but a little awkward? The best part is Zed pretending to be not Zed and learning to be a cool dad. We love it.
