Already watched the anime and enjoyed it so decided to pick this up.

What immediately struck me is that
1) the anime is an extremely close adaptation
2) despite therefore knowing exactly what is going to happen and how, the manga is still remarkably tense and engrossing. Which is really a testament to how well made this is.

The 'Black' editions collect two volumes at a time in a larger volume, have a black trim and are generally very nicely presented.
adventurous dark tense fast-paced

Love Love Love this manga!! The Tv series version was awesome too, so glad i'm re-reading this manga series and reliving the amazing characters!! Especially Ryuk, he's amazing, for a Shinigami!

Okay, so I wasn't expecting to like this as much as I did. I got hooked around three pages in. The characters are complex, and the dialogue can be hilarious at times. I find the topic of this series interesting--if given a book like the Death Note, who would you kill first? Who would deserve it? Overall, the story in engrossing and immediately pulled me in. The panels are what I would expect of a movie storyboard and gives the format that kind of a feel and read. It makes it easy for the "movie in my head" to move forward, and gives the story more action. I can't wait to pick up the next volume when I get home.

I'm officially hooked!

This was the first manga I've ever read and it was AMAZING! There are so many twists and turns throughout it. It was fascinating to watch L and Light try to keep one step ahead of the other. And the humor was on point. I can't wait to pick up the second volume.

This was a good palate cleanser - giving me a break from the serious books I was reading earlier. I really like Ryuk and Light’s adventures - the story was sharp and kept me hooked for the entirety of it!

Cole is always bugging me to read more manga and he really wants to watch the Death Note anime with me. But I wanted to read the manga first so I'm so happy that I was finally able to get around to it in July. I loved loved loved this. I was sucked in from the very first page and the only reason I didn't finish it all in one sitting is because I literally fell asleep staying up late trying to finish it.

If you don't know, this series follows a boy named Light who finds a notebook one day and learns that it is a Death Note. He finds out that if he writes a person's name in it and how they're going to die, then they will die. He decides to use this Death Note to rid the world of evil people. But things get a little dicey when the police start noticing the deaths of all these criminals and feel that someone is out there killing them.

I just have to say that this is one of the most action-packed books I've ever read. From one page to the next, I had no idea what was going to happen. This bind-up contains volumes 1 and 2 of 12 and so much happened in just this volume that I have no idea what the scope of this story is actually going to be. I just got so invested in these characters and this story that I didn't want to put it down and upon finishing it, I immediately ordered volumes 2 and 3. I can't wait to continue on with this series and then eventually watch the anime because this was fantastic.

If you're a big manga reader, you've probably already read this. But if you haven't, I'd highly recommend doing so. If you aren't a big manga reader, I'd say this would be an excellent place to start because it will suck you in from page one and you won't want to stop.

17/6/15: I have already seen the Death Note anime, and rewatched some of it. I know the story pretty well and I love it.
So it was no surprise that I enjoyed the manga just as much if not more than the anime. I especially love the black editions, they are gorgeous!
I had so much fun jumping back into this world and I so want to collect the rest of the black editions.

A perfect game of cat and mouse.
You never know who has the upper hand at any given moment, on the edge of my seat reading the entire manga series, as well of course watching the anime.
Constantly torn on who you're rooting for. This series stands the tests of time as one of my all time favourites.
