I can already tell I'm going to be raving about this book for the rest of the year and beyond. It's short, very clever, absolutely hilarious and bloody close to home. I listened to the whole thing on a walk - it made me double the length of said walk so I could listen to it all in one go, sit down in shock and laugh out loud on my own in a graveyard. I cannot tell you how much I love this book and how much you should read it. Yes, you. Whoever you are.

O livro é curtinho, mas faz uma inteligente sátira não só ao Brexit, mas também a situação política global. Considerando os absurdos de cada dia, infelizmente não parece tão surreal imaginar um governante que quer aprovar a Lei do Reversalismo, em que as pessoas pagariam para trabalhar e receberiam para consumir. E é isso que Jim Sams quer fazer a qualquer custo.
Em tempos em que governantes trabalham contra os interesses da população e que surfam na onda do radicalismo, “A barata” é um livro atual e necessário para pensar nossa situação. Indico fortemente dar de presente para aquele familiar que ainda não abriu os olhos, quem sabe dessa vez a ficha cai.

This was okay. I love McEwan so like, I was really rooting for him, but it wasn't as good as I wanted it to be. It was quite funny though I won't lie, and the premise was super cool. I just felt like he could have done so much better? IDK, the idea was there but the execution was off.

An diesem Buch spürt man den ganzen Frust des Autors über die aktuelle politische Situation (Post-Brexit) in Großbritanien. Als eine Art Abwandlung auf Kafkas Verwandlung wacht eine Kakerlake eines Morgens als englischer Premier auf. Was folgt ist ein bitterböser Kommentar auf die herrschende politische Klasse. Die vorgestellten Ideen wie die das zukünftig alle dafür zahlen sollen das sie arbeiten dürfen, wirken aber nicht so sehr viel abstruser als das was man momentan sonst so hört.
