They don't need to feel pain. All they need to feel is conscious or unconscious.

I never thought I'd find a Jack Reacher book that could top Killing Floor, but 61 Hours comes pretty damn close. It's Reacher at his best - and often, darkest - relying on his brains, not brawn, and being surprisingly introspective about his own motives and moral compass in a way frequently just taken as a given in the other books.

It was interesting to see him in a losing situation, and the extended cast of characters were great.

The cliffhanger ending spoiled things for me slightly, as the beauty of most Reacher books is that they are timeless standalones that could be happening at any given moment.

However, really liked this slightly darker take on a well trod Reacher story.

"Yes, I think he did. I think he's the sort of guy who sees things five seconds before the rest of the world."

I didn't have much luck with books number 12 and 13 in the Jack Reacher series. I have loved some of the instalments in the series and hated others but I have never not finished one until the year of 2018 and then I ended up not finishing two books in a row!

On to book number 14, 61 HOURS. I was wary but I wanted to carry on with the series and I hoped for the best. 61 HOURS did not let me down, I was hooked from the first chapter, we were back in an action packed universe with the one and only Jack Reacher. I found it difficult to put this story down, I loved the new characters and ended up having my heart broken at the end.

I am a reader who thrives off the atmosphere a book gives of so I was destined to love this one. 61 HOURS is set in a small town called Bolton, Reacher has found himself stuck in this small snow covered town when his bus crashes, but was it an accident? I felt like I was there along with Reacher, I felt cold at times but all cosy and warm when he was welcomed into a few of the locals homes.

Reacher finds himself helping the locals find out what had really happened with the bus as well as with the mystery of a dead body. This is one of the easier, more entertaining reads of the series, with characters you're bound to fall in love with and a story line you won't want to stop reading about.

"I'll have plenty of time to read, after all this fuss is over."

The only negative of this story was that I guessed who the 'baddy' was and Jack Reacher didn't even figure that one out until the very end! Trust me, Reacher is smarter than little old me. Usually if I guessed the 'who done it' then I find myself being disappointed but I wasn't at all, the story itself did so much to keep me entertained and I found myself laughing out loud as well as gasping throughout the reading experience.

Well paced thriller. Good airplane read.

Some criminals really have all the bad luck when Reacher accidentally stumbled into their scheme in some weird, random coincidence. Great for the good people, bad bad outcome for the bad guys. What can I say? Reacher will always be my bookboyfriend and this adventure is no different. His power of deduction is always fun to observe but he missed a few clues this time, which led to some catastrophic result which made him mad. And a mad Reacher must be a sight to behold.

Another good installment in the Reacher series but this story had a surprising ending that made it only 3 stars instead of 4.
