Seru3x, *teriakpakaitoa*. IMO, kisah tentang perjalanan waktu memang selalu menarik meskipun kadang-kadang juga bisa bikin pening

3.5 stars, I think. Another brilliant adventure with Artemis Fowl and Holly Short, keeping me guessing all the way through. Absolutely fascinating world building and detail, combining two worlds.
So much happened in this book! It's not my favorite in the series, but I do love a good time travel story. Though this one does get a bit confusing at times and I think I may be tired of Opal constantly being a villain. I mean, isn't there someone else out there?
But yes, a good, quick read that I pretty much breezed through and can't wait to read more about what happened to Artemis and his mom so that I'm heading to the library to snag it. In like, two hours.

Wow. Just, well, yeah, wow. I know, I know, not terribly articulate and it will not be going down in history as one of the great first lines of a review to have ever been written, but it is what it is, and though I have the almighty delete key, I shall let it stand.
This one was a little weird and while I kept reading and couldn't walk away, my head is kind of spinning at the completion of this one.
This particular installment of this ever popular series will leave readers confused and delighted and ... Feeling like they missed something, but maybe in a good way?
Artemis has battled fairies, goblins, demons and now... Time. There is action and adventure abounding, and a hint of mystery and intrigue. This is an installment in the series that you do not want to miss. I am sharing these stories with my 10 year old son and he is as enthralled as his book obsessed mom. Coming from the boy who idolizes Jeff Kinney and Rick Riordan and Suzanne Collins, that is saying something.

I finished this book way too fast. It was a whirlwind, to be sure. Would you believe me if I said majority of the book happened in 10 seconds?
Artemis. What a beautiful character. Albeit, he has his flaws, his intellect covers up for that. A reason why I'm so engaged by him is his intelligence. What could be more attractive than a boy who can compose unfinished symphonies of Beethoven while stuck in a time stream?
Another reason why this series is so compelling is Artemis's character development. Everybody loves a criminal mastermind turned hero. Artemis's younger self was cold-hearted, fuelled by determination to save his then missing father.
10 year old Artemis Fowl
Artemis stared at the speaker. He could sense that Butler had more to say. Nothing but static and the beep of instruments for a moment, then..."Today, Artemis, when you told me to shoot the lemur, you were bluffing. You were bluffing, weren't you?"
"It was no bluff,"said Artemis, his voice unwavering. "I will do whatever it takes."
Another relationship that deserves everyone to talk about it forever is Artemis and Holly. I'd always loved the dynamic of their relationship. But here, Artemis lies to Holly in order to convince her to come with him (even though it was completely unnecessary). Anyways, when Artemis confesses this to her, Holly obviously doesn't trust Artemis the way she used to anymore.
She strode across the McGraney boundary without a backward glance, legs cutting twin swathes in the green-black grass. Dawn sunlight shimmered on the tip of each blade, and Holly's passage set a surging ripple of light flash across the meadow.
Extraordinary, Artemis thought. What have I lost?
But deep in Holly's heart, even after Artemis had lied to her, her heart said,"I would have helped anyway. Definitely."
Additionally, in this venture of theirs, Artemis realises the verity of his feelings for Holly. Holly, predictably, shuts these feelings away. They both know it's there, though.
Artemis's head pounded, and Holly's mismatched eyes seemed to hypnotise him. She still had his blue eye, even though her body had rejuvenated itself in the tunnel. Another paradox. But though Artemis felt hypnotised, even slightly dazed, he knew he was not mesmerised. There was no fairy magic here.
Artemis looked into those elfin eyes, and he knew that this younger, somehow more vulnerable Holly felt the same way, at this particular tangle of time and space, as he did.
****
"But I don't want to go among mad people," said Alice.
"Oh, you can't help that," said the cat."We're all mad here."

Another fun Artemis Fowl book. Every time I've heard that another one has come out (since #4) I think "again?" and doubt Colfer's ability to get me back into the universe this time around, since each of the last few books has felt like a solid closing. And yet, each time I devour the book in a few hours!
I wonder how he'll get me next time? (Though that may not be for a few years, I guess?)

I didn’t like the villain element overall, and one of Artemis’ lies seems pretty out-of-character for all involved and only there for maximum drama.
Other than that, a really solid book. I loved the focus on how much Artemis has changed since the beginning of the series, and how much he HASN’T. The clever plans in this novel are great, and after who knows how many rereads I think I finally understand (almost) all the time travel parts.
Loved seeing Holly and Artemis team up and interact, as always.
Also, No1 is a delight. I adore him and his lines were some of my favorites.
CW: Animal extinction and death (off-page)

Artemis Fowl versus himself ... does it get any better than that? I liked that this installment in the series is mostly about Artemis being faced with how horrible he was when he was younger and trying to correct the wrongs he had committed before. Seeing his mother sick was unfortunate but it was a great way to show how much Artemis has changed since the first book. I liked that things that happened in past books had a more direct influence on events in this book. Butler aging was the worst part for me I think especially when we come face to face with his younger self it made me feel really old because in my head Butler has been and always will be the pinnacle of bodyguard perfection and overall giantness. I adore the characters in this series and watching how they've changed since the series started has been an amazing journey. I still have a couple more to read but I wish this series was still being written because I will never get tired of the friends I have made in these books. The conversations between characters like Artemis and Foaly make me realize how I have ended up as cynical as I have because I can see certain patterns in speech in these books that I hear come out of my mouth frequently. I can't wait to read the next book and see what Artemis does next.
The series so far has been pretty decent (will write a review for the series overall once I finish it), and then there's this. I basically agree with what others who also dislike this book have said, so I'm just going to mention the one thing that really stood out to me:
An adult woman kissing a 14 year old boy is not cute, is not funny, and most definitely is not a 'they're just friends but they secretly love each other' sort of thing. It's really disgusting and really NOT okay. And how everyone involved in the writing and publishing of this novel thought pedophilia was fine is beyond me.
