I started in the middle of this long running series, then had to go backward to catch-up on the characters. I adore Gemma and Duncan--their children, too. Deborah Crombie has such a way of combing the past and present history that is compelling and intriguing. I always want to know more.

Interesting story, & I really liked the wife/husband detective team. Some scenes were disturbing to me. Overall a good read though.

Another one of my favorites in this series. Maybe my third fav. At some points I felt like we were getting a little too far out of the "mystery" genre and too much into the "family story" genre, but it redeemed itself in a big way. I enjoyed the back and forth in time periods here, as well as the WWII part of the story.

Interesting, but might have been better had I read the earlier entries in the series. Did feel I walked into the middle of a TV series or movie.

I was a somewhat reluctant reader of this series, at first. But Crombie's writing got better and each book revealed a little more about the main characters. Now I find myself a little sad that this is the last book she has written in the series. I would definitely recommend them to anyone who wants some good British mystery writing.

An intense mystery featuring Crombie’s English police team of Kincaid and James. This one involves a diamond brooch that was stolen by the Nazis and belongs to a woman who needs to get to the bottom of why people associated with the brooch are turning up dead.
