dark and quick

Overall, this was as expected. What I expect from dark bully romance. It did have spelling errors though. I liked the length of it which still allowed all details necessary but didn’t drag anything out.

Bully romance, enemies to lovers and all the drama needed for a page turner book. It's dark and addicting. I'm usually not a big fan of bully romances because of the usual same storyline and the predictable moments but this story is not the case and it was the exception. This story follows Parker who is looking for revenge because he thinks his brother was wrongfully accused for a crime he didn't commit. Parker is dark, an alpha, possessive and someone who can get what he wants. Willow is just trying to get by, she is not really close with her father and now Parker has his glare on her. I never wanted to put this book down, it was so addicting and I just wanted to know what would happen next and why it would happen. Especially when the ending came, and I couldn't see it really coming!
dark emotional tense fast-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: No
Loveable characters: Complicated
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

Fun read. I enjoyed it, I love a dark romance but just FYI, the characters are feeling each other from early on. So not as much a developing romance than a continuing, growing one?

Yes yes yes!

Not as dark as I was expecting but definitely still worth the read!! Pleasantly surprised, great characters gripping plot. Never slowed down. I would leave a longer review but I'm to excited for book 2! See you on the other side!

Triggers & Commas in Unexpected Places

Beware: sexual assault, dubious consent, misogyny like it’s a damn Olympic sport, suicide.

POC?
Absolutely not; true to the obnoxious wealth of the characters, they’re all as white as the skeletons their money hides.

GLITTFAB/Queer characters?
Nope, nopety nope, nuh-uh; all painfully straight

Disabled characters?
Nope! Our main femme is a victim of abuse, both MCs have had to deal with a good bit of Interesting Trauma, but there’s no disability.

Worth my time?
Yeah, I reckon! Clocking in around 4 hours for me, the power dynamics & impossible situations made for quite a delicious bit of Smut.

Re-read?
I don’t think I would; the twists were fairly obvious, though the scenes were delightful. I don’t think it will hold up very well to being read again, even as a full series re-read.
Also! COMMAS! There are inexplicable commas in strange places that make sentences twist in weird ways & I. Do. Not. LIKE that.

Recommend?
To those who enjoy a good bit of dubious consent, with some power play & impossible situations, have at it!
If rampant misogyny, sexual assault outside the “sexy” kind, & abusive parenting isn’t your thing, steer clear.

Poor Willow. This girl just cannot catch a break and she seriously has the worst dad ever! Parker is not likeable at all, until the end of the book. I get it. I totally understand why he does the things he does, but I still wanted to throat punch him through almost the whole book. But that ending??? Did not see that coming at all! This was a great story and my feelings were all over the place with this one.

Todo es Parker

Nice bully standalone. Didn't feel too rushed while still getting an interesting story line in. Another example of rich people getting away with stuff.

This was ok.. Willow's father was an ass.. Hanging rehab over one of your daughters head is crazy.. He tells Willow if she don't attend Blackthorn he won't pay for rehab for his other daughter(Father of the year).. Willow just wants to keep her head down and finish school but because Parker thinks his brother is a saint.. Because what happened with Nate I get why Willow doubted her sister but at the same time you not supposed to doubt your sister...Even though Parker was an ass he did redeem himself just a little bit at the end when his brother attacked Willow..

2024 - FYI: I haven't actually read this book- I tried finding it on Kindle & finally today & I think I figured out the series titles were changed (Oct 2023) to the below & if I remember, it needs to be reviewed by the Goodreads Librarians because the newer editions aren't linked properly into a series.

Series: A Blackthorn Elite Novel
1. Devious Hate
2. Ruthless Rivals
3. Sinister Obsession
4. Vicious Regret

I love this author & C. Hallman- but this one is a bit messy!
