"The bullied shouldn't want the bully."
Hating You is the first book in the new dark bully romance series from this writing duo. I have loved their other works, North Woods University and Bayshore Rivals so, you can imagine my excitement when I found out they have a brand new series, and it's a DARK bully romance. How about that? So I went ahead and lose myself in this book world.
"My obsession with her has ruled my mind for so long. It's hard for me to shove the territorial thoughts away, to separate me wanting to have her and wanting to destroy her."
Parker and Willow knows each other when they were kids. As they get older, they see each other in passing on social gatherings, etc. But when one incident involving both their families that resulted to Parker's brother going to prison, Parker became obsessed on revenge against Willow's family. She became his easy target when she unwittingly went to the school he also attends. From then on, the revenge, drama, lies and betrayals ensued.
"See, I was always fucked up, the black sheep of the family. For as long as I can remember, there's always been a darkness around me."
I don't know how to describe Parker aside from his loyalty to his family runs deep that he would do ANYTHING to exact revenge, even physically hurt those who wronged them. He is intense, one track minded guy and obsessive to the point of madness. Yes, he is basically an A-hole towards Willow. No other way to say it. Willow, poor her, is caught between the devil and the deep blue sea, so to speak. She had to endure going to school and Parker or her sister will suffer the consequences. You can pretty much guess what she chose. She is, in some way, like Parker when it comes to family. Both of them willing to give their all for the sake of those they love.
"Make me bleed, and I'll make you bleed in return. Blood for blood, Parker."
"We're chaos riding a slippery slope into hell, and if we're not careful, we'll both get burnt to a crisp."
I'd say their chemistry is crazy, toxic; a disaster waiting to happen that will destroy both of them. I guess it's true what they say that there is a fine line between love and hate. I loved that the others wrote that there were triggering scenes in this book so the readers could be aware. Considering I've read dark romance books before, I'd consider this in the middle category. Other than that, if this is your jam, you should definitely this book a go.

2.5 stars rounded up for GR. Fairly typical and forgettable college bully romance with a slight mystery/twist at the end. Heroine was decent (aka not a doormat) and the story had some Untouchable by Sam Mariano vibes. Unfortunately there were grammar mistakes and a distracting misuse of commas.
So, I normally really like JL Beck and Cassandras books. This one for me didn’t get good until the last few chapters and I could not get over how mean everyone was. It was not practical for me. I don’t think I’ll read Warren’s version. Parker was so unequivocally mean to willow and everything ended with unicorns and rainbows. I’m not buying it. And the dress situation just annoyed me.
Parker is volatile. His need to possess, and claim, to hurt and mark is very rough. My problem with him is this, there’s a disconnect in the switch from hating to loving. One minute he’s abusing, blackmailing, and the next he’s in love and doesn’t want her to leave. It’s hard to reconcile the differences.
Willow is fighting things out to make a better life for her sister, who’s in a facility. I understand the backstory, but at the same time, i have a hard time believing that an “innocent “ girl would be able to barter with her body the way Willow does. There was no other currency? It just didn’t hit home.
The plot line was intriguing and I stayed until the end to find the culprit, but the misses detracted overall.

First one in the Blackthorn Elite series and holy cow hold on because you are in for quite the ride with this series if this one is any indication. This book was amazing from beginning to end. I absolutely love Bully romance books. This one hit it out of the water for me.
Willow is going to a new school to try and start over her life. Her father made it clear that she needed to make their name well known again. She is only doing this to help her sister. But she runs into the one person that can destroy her with just a look. Parker is known to her because of something that happened in her past. He is hell bent on getting his revenge for what she did to his family. He wants her miserable and he will do whatever it takes to make that happen. But little does he know that fate has something more in store for him.
The chemistry between these two is off the charts hot. Whether it be because it is a hate love relationship or a love love relationship it is hot. You can easily see once the revenge is put to the side that these two belong together. I will say that there is a very upsetting moment in this one. Shocking and upsetting I did not see it coming at all. I wanted to throw my kindle. But this storyline hooked me and had me reading until the very end. I had to know what was going to happen between Parker and Willow. J.L Beck and C. Hallman blew me away once again with an amazing storyline and two amazing characters. I cant wait to read the rest in this series. Highly recommend one clicking this one.

Wow. Tension off the chart, fire, twists, turns, suspense, lust, hate, love and more make this one hot read. If you like bully romance then this is for you. Parker is very dark, dangerous and twisted. Willow is the perfect woman for him. She is sweet, open, and feeds his dark side. "Something inside you clings to the darkness inside of me. We're two drops of paint on a white canvas, and one of us is going to dull the other's color" I love this quote. Parker makes this statement to Willow during a very dark twist in the book.
The characters, the plot, the whole world that these authors have created is amazing. I didn't want to put this book down. I like that it isn't a instalove type of book, this was tried and true bully romance. Parker is fueled by so much hate and he is allowed to just keep his secrets, and hate as he takes it out on Willow. Such a good book, this story is told is dual pov.

Overall Grade: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ++
Dark bully romance isn’t for everyone. There are some general tropes attached to it, as far as my newbie brain has observed: the heroine’s father is horrific, mom is dead or long gone, hero must exact some type of revenge on the heroine, hence his “bullying” of her, and there is an ancillary cast of characters who either help or hinder the hero’s plight of revenge. At some point in the story, the hero recognizes his undying love for his intended object of revenge and undergoes a change. However, all along, he has secretly loved her, much to his discontent. Additionally, her heroine hates the hero, stands strong in her own convictions, but her body betrays her when the hero threatens to ravage her. In the end, they admit their undying love for each other and live a life with hot, ravishing $ex and an obsessive love.
Again, this sub-genre is not for everyone. It’s difficult to watch the oftentimes horrific bullying of the heroine. Yet, it’s her strength to endure that earns her reader love. J.L. Beck and C. Hallman’s newest book, Hating You, holds many of these qualities. And for this reader, it is a success. You see, I love dark bully romance. I love when a heroine stands up to the hero, while the hero obsessively hates and loves her. He can’t help himself when he is around her, and I love when she feels the same. It’s dark and wrong in a normalized romance setting. But it reads like candy on the page.
Hating You follows Parker and Willow. Two years prior to this story, Willow turns in Parker’s brother, Brett, for assaulting her sister. This launches Parker in a full out plan to exact revenge on Willow, as he believes she lied and put his brother away in prison. Unbeknownst to Willow, Parker’s family “owns” the university that she has entered. She goes to school under an agreement with her abusive father as a way to protect her sister’s care. From the first night, Parker obsessively bullies her. With no help and a threat from her father, Willow makes an agreement with Parker that can do whatever he wants to her. As they enter this agreement, their feelings for each other become entangled, and they both fight against each other when they really want to fall FOR each other. When a situation arises that puts Willow’s life in danger, will Parker save her, or will his revenge become complete?
I could not put this book down. I picked it up late in the evening, fell asleep, woke up with it, and finished it in a couple of hours. Beck and Hellman have created this tense, erotic bully romance that engulfs you. My heart bled for Willow as she endures Parker’s abuse. There were many times that I found myself wanting to yell at him to leave her alone. For me, anything that evokes a visceral response from me is considered a strong romance.
From one minute to the next, I didn’t know if I should hate or love Parker. In fact, you won’t like Parker until later in the story when the truths of the book are revealed. However, once he realizes the error of his ways, he is swoon-city. Honestly, if I didn’t know any better, I would think that Parker struggles with bipolar. He cannot decide for much of the book if his hate is stronger than his want for her. He is your typical bully hero.
Willow is the true hero of this story. She is principled and stalwart, even in the face of her abuser. There are many times when Parker takes situations too far, and sadly, Willow’s body betrays her as she lusts for Parker. Yet, she acts as the ultimate protector of her sisters, and her motivations are pure. I’ve read dark bully romances wherein the heroine is my least favorite character. This is not the case with Hating You. Willow is someone to admire.
This book is a page turner. It engrosses, titillates, entertains, and challenges your thinking about modern romance. From the beginning to the end, you won’t be able to put J.L. Beck and C. Hallman’s book down until you’ve finished it. This is one of the best bully romances I’ve read since Ashley Jade’s Cruel Prince. I highly recommend it.

Are you looking for your next bully read? Something deliciously dark? Then look no further than Hating You. It has it all; suspense, angst, enemies to lovers, a-hole character.
I was worried this book was going to be too much for me. That my boundaries were going to be crushed, but as always, J.L. Beck and C. Hallman gave just the right amount of darkness and bully tactics to keep me riveted to the story and turning the page.
Parker and Willow are so cute together. It takes a lot to get them to their HEA but it’s so worth it. They endure so much but it just makes the ending so much sweeter. There are twists and turns and characters to love and hate.
I’m excited to start Warren’s book.
