This book was incredibly well done. The switching perspectives was hard to follow at first, but once you got the hang of it, the story was told beautifully.
I enjoyed the look into how the twins separately developed in life with their own challenges and perspectives while still holding onto their childhood roles with one another.
Super well done, ending was a bit random, but all of the plot lines were tied up very well and in a way that made sense for the characters.

I had to sleep on this book to be able to gather my thoughts on it.
The first half was pretty strong, I really had high hopes but it fell flat after that.
There were lines in here that were beautiful but I also found certain story lines unnecessary.
I desperately wanted the author to delve more into the twins and their lives but a large part of the book focused on other characters. Also, too many social issues were cramped in but nothing was really explored properly.
Issa 3.5 from me.

Such a moving, beautiful story that touches on gender, race, identity, sexism, and so much more. Highly recommend!

I'm on a run of reading really, really great books and "The Vanishing Half" was no exception. I went into this book really not knowing anything about it - I just liked the cover and found it second hand at a thrift store. I'm so glad I picked it up though. It's a historical fiction book that dives deep into the intersection of racial identity, prejudice, community and family. I found it so interesting to read about the lives of the two sisters and how they chose different paths for themselves. I got a little hesitant when the story veered off into the perspectives of their daughters but I was so so wrong - the POV of the next generation added so much more depth to the story and really showed how certain decisions can really impact so much. Would highly recommend.
