I enjoyed this- it was a kidnap plot so I was a little bit worried it might be a weird vibe, but it didn't feel too stockholmy

This was a quick read and I enjoyed the characters. Character delevelopment was good and story line was good throughout most of the story. I enjoyed that the main female character was into math, puzzles, economics, etc. I knocked off a star because I felt like the ending was soo rushed and felt cut off. There was so much more that felt like needed to happen and we didn’t get to see it.

Aldari, a princess with uncommon interests in economics and mathematics, is duty bound to travel to a country she’s never been and marry a prince she’s never met to make an alliance saving her country against the empire. Kidnapped along the way with her bodyguard friend, Theli, she must solve centuries old puzzles to save the elves and escape in time to the marriage to save her people. That is if she can stay alive long enough through this unexpected adventure with dangerous wild animals, wild men attacks, pirates, and cursed elves.

I liked the characters and the witty banter between Aldari, Theli, Hawk, and even sometimes Setvick. I appreciated that Aldari was willing to defend herself and help out even though she was only an “economist”. I enjoyed the subtle imagery, lore, and world building.

The only things I didn’t like were the few sexual innuendos and a couple uses of minor swear words. But that is personal preference and it really didn’t detract from the story. Trigger warning: There is an instance of attempted rape.

Overall, I enjoyed this fast paced stand alone adventure. The author said she might make more with these characters or in this world which would be fun to read about.

Nothing new - the characters and plot are just plain boring.

Kinda silly and a weird combination of fantasy war + boy-crazy protagonist, but still entertaining overall. I liked it more than I thought I would.

A lovely little romance involving elves, pirates, sea serpents, and puzzles! Princess Aldari goes on her way to her arranged (and agreed upon by her) wedding, only to get kidnapped by the elves hired to protect her. She and her bodyguard Theli attempt to get back on track and get to her wedding, but escaping a group of elven mercenaries sadly isn't that simple.

This was a pretty quick read for me. Nice characters, funny and exciting hijinks, a nerdy princess, and, of course, some handsome elves will already make for a good story, but in Buroker's hands it just turns to gold. 4,2 stars from me, which I've sadly had to round down to 4.

I enjoyed this. Very enjoyable and with a pairing that I really like, and a unique take on zombies.
