The story just got really weird and unnecessarily convoluted about halfway through, with the solution not really making sense. The tension building was a bit better with this one, but overall the writing ain't great.
I just can't stop myself though. I will read the third one.

Dreamless was such an interesting, enjoyable read! After reading Starcrossed, I knew I had to continue the story, and I'm really looking forward to the final book, Goddess, which comes out this year. So, Dreamless. I started it, and had completely forgotten what happened in Starcrossed, so I decided I should probably re-read it. I did, and started on this one...and we really do see the aftermath of Starcrossed.
The island is completely weird, people are out to get Helen, and she and Lucas need to avoid each other, because it's too hard for them to be near each other and it t doesn't work out too well. What they don't know- but the reader does- is that they really aren't related. But with the introduction of Orion, we see what I'm absolutely sure will become a love triangle, especially whenever Helen and Lucas find out that they aren't related and that Helen's mom lied to everyone about that. Then again, their inability to do math just adds drama and conflict to their relationship. We don't see much of her mom, and I'm really curious as to what's going on with her, because I JUST KNOW there's something fishy. And since we don't find out what it is in this book, it's sure to come out in the next one.
Mythology time! Angelini has built on the Greek mythology and added to it! Helen's wandering the Underworld, manages to free the Furies with Orion's help, and also manages to free the gods in this super-secret master plan to get them out of their prison. There's a lot of chaos and destruction, but things sort of work out okay. Key words being sort of, because it feels like the calm before the storm.
I really need to brush up on my Greek mythology, and I like that Automedon had an evil minion in Zach, who manages to figure out that the reason why Automedon was never killed in battle because no one thought to shoot him in the ankle. I should have been able to figure that one out, but it was still a nice surprise, and a twist I wasn't expecting. She really does make Greek mythology really interesting and really cool.
Helen going into the Underworld was a bit boring because it was pretty much the same thing over and over. She does keep trying (because she's the only one who can) and Lucas does help her, even though he resorts to nefarious means to do so. Well, sort of nefarious. Either way, he does help her.
I'm going back to Orion for a second. I just...I don't think I like him with Helen. Especially with the math that everyone should be able to figure out but aren't. I'm glad he could help Helen, because she really needed it and he was able to descend into the Underworld with her. But really, she and Lucas belong together. The whole Helen Of Troy thing hasn't really been played up as much as I expected, so either Angelini has decided to not go in the direction...or we'll see in the next one. I'm betting on seeing it in the next one, but it probably won't be on the level I'm hoping for.
Final Thoughts: Dreamless is more action-packed than Starcrossed and it was a fun read. I'm impressed with how Angelini puts her own twist on Greek mythology. There are some things that are a little too weird (i.e. no one being able to do math) and things that we're not getting the whole story on (like...what Daphne's really up to). But overall, Dreamless is such a good continuation of the story that I can't wait to read the next book! Dreamless gets 4 stars.

You have got to be kidding me!
I practically read this book in one day to read the moment Helen learned that Lucas is NOT her cousin.
But noooo. Her mom thinks about telling her once, but that's it.
And now there's Orion making Helen all confused.
UGHHH.
So I was disappointed when the final chapter ended.
However...I still loved it. I love all this demigod stuff.
Definitely a page turner.

i fgured out how this is percy jackson for girls(of course percy jackson is for everyone,) Anywho its siilar bevcause neither of them knew anything about greek monsters. Of course Percy began to learn and had good reason for not knowing seeing as he was dyslexic. Helen has read the Odyssey and others so she should know of the gods and monsters and such. Yes i get Angelini is trying to introduce the mythological creatres to those unfamiliar with them but she could at least try to be more creative. It seems to me as if helen has no idea what the fuck shes doing. The whole romance too is just overdrawn and stuff.and really? a love triangle? haven't we had enough of those in like everysingle ya book out there?
AMAZING i love this book so much you dont get many book about demi goods and the real god being the evil ones it was very original
OMG! This series just keeps getting and better. I am simply hooked! I think this is the best series about mythology I have read in a while! I am in in love with all of the characters. There is this awesome harmony going on among the characters, Scions and humans. I also loved the introduction of Orion into the series. For a second I was thinking about #TeamLucas and #TeamOrion. LOL - I also love how you can see the characters' growth from the first book to the second book. Smooth transitions, vivid landscapes [I could literally feel the Underworld LOL], and amazing characters make the second book in the Starcrossed series exquisite. I can't wait for the next book! And thanks for signing my book, Josephine Angelini! She wrote: "Jen - never sleep!". I love it and get it now that I have read the book! Thanks so much for an awesome series!
Well, this was definitely a heavy book. The beginning is pretty slow but after about 45% everything definitely starts picking up. I am still team Lucas and just adore his strength and character. I enjoy a lot the secondary characters and loved that they had a more important role in this book. This will just lead you storming to the next book.
Would've been 5 stars but seriously, I cannot believe Helen and Lucas still don't know they're not cousins! I won't spoil the end but it's really freaking obvious who her real dad is.
For such a smart heroine she really is quite thick in the head.
Damn.
All in all decent plot, awesome characters (though I don't really like Daphne...), and bomb ending. It started off slow but is totally worth it, especially for fans of greek mythology.
Read it.
Cant wait for the next book!

Loved the book. It was really easy to read, but the middle part was a bit long. After 100 pages I was like okay I get it, you must roam the underworld.
