I really didn't think, when I started reading this book THIS MORNING that I wouldn't be able to put it down without finishing it less than twelve hours later.
Jude, the female protagonist has been warped by her ordeal as a tortured hostage, but also strengthened. She struggles with readjusting to relatively normal society while picking up her career as homicide detective. She sees the world, and her relationships, in a very different way now.
Did I make it sound boring? It's anything but boring. It is a riveting and insightful novel of survival and the flexibility of the mind when pushed to it.

Tightly woven suspense, betrayal, and lies. Ms Frasier does an excellent job at shining a light on the dark underbelly of humanity. I'm looking forward to diving into the next book... but first, a rom-com with a HEA is in order.

This mystery-crime novel was so good!

It begins with very graphic descriptions of a woman (Jude Fontaine) escaping her captor that has held her for over 3 years. The writing in this is not light and fluffy. It is compelling, like watching a segment of Criminal Minds. (I enjoy forensic and behavioural analysis shows.)

Jude Fontaine was (is) a Detective and the only thing she wants to do is return to work; it's all she has left after her release from abduction.

This story is well written and a fast, compelling read. It is contemporary and definitely not a cozy mystery read. I'm looking forward to picking up the 2nd in the series.

I would recommend it to everyone who likes crime mystery reads.
