Now the first book ALL-AMERICAN GIRL, was fairly likable. But this book was just unbearable. In my opinion it had no redeeming qualities.

Listened to the audiobook of All-American Girl. Very funny. Similar to the Princess Diaries in that the main character has to deal with becoming an overnight celebrity. Completely unrealistic, but that's sort of the point. Overdrive doesn't have the sequel (Ready or Not), so I guess I'll read it.

Ahem. Quite different from the prequel. David's character was different (worse_ than in the first book. Lots of thoughts on sex, and the conclusion of the main predicament (should she Do It or not?) wasn't great (ie. If you think in highschool you've met the guy who is The One, go ahead...). This doesn't seem remotely like a good idea.

waz great, but not as great as the last one. had a good ending to the sequel
funny lighthearted fast-paced

Overly dramatic, but I was expecting that. I was really impressed with the way Cabot dealt with teen sex in this one.

Reading YA novels is always a great escape, and this one was a lot of fun. Samantha Madison is a spunky narrator, and it was entertaining to read her reflections on high school drama and angst. There were several moments in the novel that had me laughing out loud, and it was the perfecting relaxing read. That said, character development was relatively flat and the plot was quite predictable. Fun, but not much below the surface.

adding for completeness of my reading history but don't remember enough to review.

I read this for closure, because I, four year ago, loved the first book. I'm not pleased with this book and frankly, could spend a lot of time explaining why. I'll just summarize and say I don't really recommend this to anyone, especially not teens/ middle schoolers who still may be influenced enough to believe the lies this book shows.

Rating 3.5 Stars

I fell in love with Samantha in All American Girl, and was pretty excited when I found a sequel at the library. Though I did not love this as much as the first book, I still liked it. I personally believe this book is fairly relevant for its target age group.

Samantha is struggling with the decision to take her relationship to the next level. A decision that many girls her age have faced for ages. I liked that Cabot presented all sides, and talked about the responsibilities and possible outcomes. There was everything in there - slut shaming, abstinence, contraceptions, self pleasuring, love, lust. I felt like it was an open dialog with lots of angles in order to present a complete picture.

Don't worry, Samantha was still Samantha - still funny, sassy, and neurotic. An enjoyable addition to the series.

These books were a weird experience. One minute I'd be kind of impressed that the book actually went somewhere I wasn't expecting it to go, the next minute it fucked it all up. The writing was horrendous. All the characters talked the same way, especially with the annoying overuse of certain phrases.

That being said, I'm still glad I read them. They were like walking through a horribly inconsistent and annoying as fuck museum from the early 2000s USA, but at least it was kind of intriguing? Like, trying to make sense of the inconsistency and the author's intentions(which I could not figure out), or just giving into the stupidity and pointing the examples out, actually engages your brain.

I originally read this series because I saw some reviews outraged that "a young adult book talks about sex" and saying you had to wait for marriage and shit, so I wanted to read this book and like it and give it a good rating in spite of them. However, as much as this book "tries" to give a positive and cohesive message (which I admit is an improvement from the first one which was a whole other mess) it fails. Once again, oh the inconsistency. First it makes a really good point and the next second it completely misses or even contradicts it, and so on. Very insensitive as well.
