A fun, sweet read. Reading this as a kid would have given me lots of insight to my Finnish ancestors who settled in an area close to where Kirsten's family did.

I read all the Kirsten books. I like the little braids. My favorite is Samantha though.

The American Girl books are always a great read.  And Kirsten is one of the original three (my favorite as a child!).  Perfect to read with your kids, and still a nice comfort read as an adult.

I think Meet Kirsten may be one of my favorite American Girl books. It's very tender and captures such a pivotal moment in an immigration story. The book is full of excitement and hope, while still carrying weight for how frightening and heavy a journey like this would be.

HOWEVER! I am CONFIDENT that Sari did not need to be left in the painted chest. Surely someone had a pocket she could have ridden in?

Ahh, the American girl everyone told me to like the most because she was blonde, white, and Swedish like me. She definitely has a standout personality, hating school, being a bit rebellious…lol, things that did not describe me as a 9yo AT ALL. (That’s why Josefina is still my girl). Fun to read through these books again with my 6yo, who still has yet to choose a favorite.
