Simply just a book. And as someone who reads (and enjoys) a good number of smutty romances, this was not one of them!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
Another Kandi Steiner staple! I may be a little biased because Ms. Steiner could sell her grocery list, and I'd buy it without hesitation.
I absolutely loved the plot of this book; the idea of this modern-day journalist creating content solely based on Tampa's hotshot rookie. It was giving Clay and Giana with a mixture of Zeke and Riley (IYKYK).
The banter was A+! No one writes angst quite like Kandi. I was just WAITING for these two to give into their undeniable chemistry. The spice? Even better.
Vince Tanev was smooth AF. I had to literally pick my jaw up off the floor with some of the stuff that came out that man's mouth. Whether it was banter or dirty talk, he was Putting. It. Down. He was coming for Leo's spot in my top fave Kandi men. He was sweet, caring, and generous, yet possessive, determined, and confident. I completely fell in love with him, and if Maven wasn't going to jump on him, I was

Tropes:
🏒 Enemies to lovers
📰 Workplace romance (reporter + hockey player)
🤭Forced proximity
🎨 Unexpected soft hobbies (yes, he does pottery and my heart isn’t okay)
Vince: Started as your classic 🚩 cocky hockey player who only cared about the ice… but then? Layers. Pottery. Deep family love. Honestly, he had me forgetting those early red flags. (Selective blindness? Absolutely.)
Maven: My sweet girl 😭. Picking up the pieces from a rich-jerk heartbreak, swearing off athletes, landing her dream job… only to be assigned to the exact type of man she promised herself to avoid. The professionalism vs heart struggle was REAL.
Hockey romance bonus points: They actually play hockey in this book — not just talk about it 😂.
Why not 5⭐? Without spoilers… let’s just say the proposal location/timing choice took me out. Girl deserved a “tell your dad over dinner” moment, not… that.
Would recommend if you like your sports romance with banter, actual sport, and a love interest you have to “unlock” like a video game.
