Totally proof of not judging a book by its cover lol. I was giggling and kicking my feet the whole way through listening to this and I am very glad I got past the cringe af cover in order to start this book. The FMC was a tad frustrating at times, but her motivations made sense and I was able to get past that as well.
My first Kandi Steiner book & I completely get the hype! I looooooveee the slowburn & tension of this book. I think it’s more interesting to see a couple fight what’s between them than to be all in from the start and this book delivers that. There are some things the male mc says that I don’t love ie calling her a bitch but other than those moments I love this story!
Definitely ready for a series that follows some of the other characters too like Daddy P, Carter & Livia. 10/10

FINALLY A SPORTS ROMANCE THAT SHOWS THEM ACTUALLY *PLAYING* THE SPORT!
this is my favorite kind of sports romance if i’m honest, especially with hockey. sometimes in sports romances it’s just like, “yeah! i play _____ sport!” then it’s just a cut to “i won!” or “i lost :(“ with no actual playing of the game. and when we get his pov during the game it is always about how pretty and distracting she is on the sidelines. GET YOUR HEAD IN THE GAME, BOY. so honestly 10/10 for that alone.
this paragraph is a spoiler beware skip to the next one…. they didn’t make the playoffs???? i love it. in sports romances these fuckers always cinch a playoffs spot and more often than not… win the entire thing. REALISM BABY. i shit u not this one little detail brought this book from a 3.5 to a 4.25. okay maybe not just this one mini realism detail but a couple that were in there just elevated this book to that point.
this has nothing to do with the plot, well kinda, but not really? but the relationship between maven and livia is amazing. a realistic portrayal of besties. ESPECIALLY with the “BREAK SHIT, BITCH!” line. honestly one of my fav lines in the book. especially in that context.
anyways, i had no business starting another hockey romance series. these fuckers have me in a chokehold and i’m already trying to figure out how to get book 2 in my hands as soon as possible.
maven is a cool, bad bitch. she’s not a sniveling fmc. she dishes it out and she takes it. she’s funny and she’s a social media manager. i mean. i’d probably fall in love with her too.
vince (hate his name but i’ll deal with it) is *chefs kiss* the smut was speaking to me in this one. this man’s mouth ?????? my god u dirty bitch i love you.
i’ll keep this review pretty short and stop here. i really don’t have many critiques here. it’s not 5 stars simply bc it didn’t have the depth required for a 5 star for me, and there were some minuscule moments that took it to a 4.25 but please let it be known, a 4.25 is a damn impressive rating for a romance from me. i need to stop finding new authors i like because now i have another backlist to read.
minor update: why on gods green earth do authors insist on having characters fuck during workouts. i know it is musty down there. WHY. it’s not sexy. i just envision the men at my local planet fitness with their tshirts sweated down to their backs and man boobs LITERALLY dripping sweat and heavy breathing. not only did we have workout sex in the book once, but we also had it in the bonus scene. please just TAKE A SHOWER. get down and dirty IN the shower. i know that that workout equipment was NASTY. ur gonna get bacterial vaginosis or something. and on that same note. when his hands were literally covered in clay and not only does he put his fingers in one hole, he puts them in the other one too???? THAT IS AN INCOMING UTI IF IVE EVER SEEN ONE. why are we DOING these things.
in my defense, i think that sometimes when i read stuff like this i’m like okay yeah that’s great and all. and i know spicy books should not be the thing that teaches teenagers about sex, but i also think it’s important to put little nods in there. the fmc did anal for the first time without any preparation. like. that’s… not how it should be. just make a comment about it and move on. at least that way the more… inexperienced or uneducated people know that hey if u wanna go try this stuff maybe do some research first. because putting clay covered fingers in your hooha is definitely not great for the vaginal health. it’s all sexy in the romance book before some 30 year old vanilla woman decides THIS is how she wants to spice up life in the bedroom. then it’s itchin and burnin all the way to urgent care. ok that’s all still a great book. love u bye.

This story follows content creater /social media Maven King& hockey player Vince Tanev. This is the first book of Kandi’s new hockey series and if you know me I LOVE me some hockey books. She did an absolutely amazing job with this book. Maven is hired to do PR work for Vince’s team and has to follow him for 24/7. Their banter & tension throughout their time spent together was top TIER.
Kandi Steiner and hockey? Yes.
This book has is all. The banter is great, so fun and witty.
Maven and Vance have some super-heated tension. You kind of know where this story is going to lead once you find out that Mave, pretty much needs to spend every waking moment with Vance but HOW HARD VANCE FELL..
Whew, I am obsessed with "He falls first" so, this was right up there for me.
Maven, recently broken up with a snotty golf player, doesn't want to do the dating thing - especially not the dating thing with another rich, spoiled, jock.
The SPICE - My beans. Kandi really did give us everything we wanted in this book. I had very little expectations, but came out super excited at the end. Can't wait for the next book!
The audio production of this book was pretty awful. I would have much rather read this book instead of listening to it.

I devoured this book in one day! Holy hotness is Vince! But Maven, I really wanted to grab you by the shoulders and shake you.
Another awesome sports romance from Kandi!
This may be my favorite book she’s ever written!
Maven has been tasked with managing social media for Tampa’s newest hotshot hockey rookie, Vince. At first, she think he’s like all the other rich athletes and can’t stand him. He thinks she’s gorgeous and he wants her. The forced proximity and the steam was so good. The moments when they would get jealous were so hot. Loved how Vince understood Maven had been hurt before and he was patient. The conflict was short and resolved easily. I’m already excited for the next in this new hockey series!
