This was such a good book. It took me a while to get into it though. I got this audiobook for free in an author newsletter months ago and I started it a few times but I just couldn't get into until this weekend, when i pick up from chapter 7 or 8 and I was hooked.
I loved the chemistry between Vince and Maven. Even when they didn't like each other, you could feel the attraction between them. I love that Vince has a whole other caring, creative side to him that most people don't see, but he readily shares that side with Maven. Maven has been hurt before by someone from a similar background to Vince so It's understandable that she has walls up especially when she realises how strongly she feels for him. but it broke my heart to see her hurting him because she was hurting. I wanted to shake her and say, "go find a freaking therapist and talk through your issues." I like how he was persistent and didn't give up on them, even when she tried to push him away. The spice in this was so good.
The narrators, Edward Black and Megan Wicks are new to me, and I really enjoyed their performance. they really brought the story to life. This was done in duet style and they played off each other so well. their banter was top notch.
I loved the epilogue! So most epilogues are the usual "and they lived happily ever after" scences after the story has ended, but this was very different. The epilogue in this one is really a prelude to the next book in the series. We get a glimpse of Vince and Maven, but it's told from the POV of Jaxson, the MMC in book two, and the focus of the epilogue is on the FMC of book two. It gets listeners excited to buy the next book right away. I certainly did. I think it's genius.

It was… fine. I had high hopes, I really wanted to love Vince, but every once in a while he gave me the low-key ick. I liked Maven, but I occasionally found my self getting impatient with her woundedness, sometimes it felt like its only purpose was dragging the story out. I would have liked to see Vince do more romancing without trying to “prove himself”— more for the sake of the relationship itself instead of just “winning the girl.”

Wow when did Kandi Steiner ramp up the spice in her books? Dare I say this was my fave Kandi book I’ve read?! A great start to this hockey series.
Can not wait to read the next!
