“I love that face, by the way. The one you make when you realize you’ve met your match.”
First off, I knew this book would be special to me once I read that Maven’s parents met in AmeriCorps and continued to spend their lives helping communities. I spent two years with AmeriCorps NCCC and absolutely loved the experience!
Maven is a second generation hippie, her parents are always helping their communities and raised Maven to have the same inclination to do so. With that and a past relationship Maven had a bit of a misguided idea of all rich people. So when she goes to a charity gala and meets Vince, Tampa Bays hottest NHL rookie, she is anything but impressed and immediately shared her judgement with him.
Maven is currently working for one of the biggest social media companies in Tampa Bay and after her coverage of the gala she is told she will be spending a month 24/7 with Vince doing a feature on him. When the two are forced to spend all their time together Maven learns she judged Vince too quickly.
Vince is in his first year as a NHL player and he certainly takes advantage of all the perks but there is obviously so much more to him than that. I loved how he fell first for Maven and how protective he was, he was dedicated to making her feel like she belonged with his crew which was adorable. Their tension was also off the charts
