why was she so relatable? also, the best friend, said the most iconic line in the book:
"BREAK SHIT, BITCH." i love women.
this book follows maven king who is tasked to follow around the famous hockey player, vince tanev, aka Mr playboy, for a month. he's charming and every girl's dream. but maven has dated a guy like him before and has sworn off dating guys like him to protect herself. but it's too late, she's caught his eye. and day by day, he's becoming irresistable, and oddly enough proving everything she thought she knew about him, wrong.
thoughts & opinions~
overall it's safe to say i enjoyed this book. i adore work place romances like this and the fact it had a sport aspect made it even juicer. the forced proximity was done perfectly. from the first chapter i was all hands on deck for this book; the chemistry and characters were fire.
what i admired about this book is how the author made her characters stay true to themselves until they showed a significant development.
maven is someone with huge trust issues and she really puts vince through the ringer because of her trust issues, which was so realistic. and i liked that. i liked the push and pull and it made it countlessly more angstier. vince didn't seem like a playboy to be honest but i understood the playboy rep when they went to boomers, a club the players go after a game. one thing that made me judge him is that whenever maven told him she didn't trust him etc he'd just give up and let her think that.š
like dude, get up.
one of the characters livia intrigued me. because whilst she was the maven's best friend her actions and words made me believe she was just one of those characters there for the sake of pushing the romance plot/the mc's getting together. one of her lines also makes me believe she will have a book in this series.
i liked the pacing and it didn't feel rushed. perhaps a bit choppy but I'm not sure if that because i do read fast and forget parts.
the coach.ššš why does this mf keep smirking and acting like a guy fresh outta college. i swear what is up with him. if he got a book then ok, but not everyone has to be hot ms author it's okay to make people average.
the relationship itself was tender, angsty and also spicy, goddammmnn. i loved the arguments they had, i almost wished they were longer but it was perfect nonetheless. seriously the arguments made the book. how they would test each other to eachother's limits and somehow still were so insanely attracted to each other. they had a lot of sex, icl i did skim over it because he's not THE hottest guy and i was ready for more tender parts. but ig if they are fwb i wont get much of that. the last chapter caught me off guard- he proposed awfully quickly unless my time bearings are wrong.
one sad thing is that we didn't get a proper epilogue. i hate when authors do this. instead the epilogue is just an intro for the next book.

Iām not going to lie, this book did not have me in the first half. The second half was a 5 star read for me, but the first half was less enemies to lovers and more Mavenās bias closing her off. Let's pour one out for Livia, because she did Godās work helping Maven out, lol apparently more so than Mavenās own therapist. I liked where it ended but had to dock it to 4 just because the beginning had me so annoyed.

Meet Your Match is a hockey romance, in which Maven is employed to document a month in the life of NHL rookie Vince. Maven takes an instant dislike to Vince based on his reputation but those walls slowly come down.
My main issue with this book was that I just didn't like the main characters very much. Maven, in particular, I found to be condescending and patronising, with an over-inflated view of herself and what she's done for 'the community'. Vince was a little better, but I felt like we never got into the depth of his character beyond the classic 'using a playboy facade'.
Despite not liking the characters, I did enjoy the way the book was written and how their relationship progressed. In the latter part of the book the characters were more tolerable, and I liked them getting into each others vulnerabilities.
I have to also mention the spice, which was delectable. Scenes were well written and descriptive, with some excellent dirty talk thrown in. If nothing else it's worth the read just for this
I'd definitely read other books by Steiner as I did really like her writing and other characters, I think I just didn't vibe with these two enough to give it a higher rating.

Kandi Steiner does it again. In her hockey era? Yes maāam.
*I received this arc for my honest review*
They way that both characters are written to show how different they are and their lives growing up was absolutely beautiful. Two different people from totally different walks of life.
And the spice? CHEFS KISS.
Oh how I wish I could go in to so much more but this is a spoiler free review!

Hockey romance and Kandi Steiner literally are a perfect combo. I adored this book so much! It literally filled the void that I was missing where I havenāt read a hockey romance in so long (4 weeks is a long time for me).
The book follows Maven, a social media creator who is assigned to follow and document the hottest rookie in NHL for a month. In walks Vince, said rookie, who just so happens to be the guy Maven didnāt get along with at an event. As they start to spend time with each other the line between hate and want begins to blur. However, Maven has already had her heart broken by an athlete, will she let her guard down and let Vince in?
This book was so good, I love the dynamic of the relationship between Maven and Vince. The banter and angst between the two of them was so fun to read. There was such a good amount of time in the build up to the āf*** itā moment, that it didnāt feel rushed or you werenāt screaming FINALLY! I love the vulnerability between them too, it felt a lot more real than some other hockey romances I have read.
Overall, I really enjoyed Meet Your Match! I love the main characters but also the side characters and excited to continue this series with Jaxson and Graceās book!
