Use of the R slur and consistent picking on a character for being fat, which is meant to be justified by him being a bad person. Of course, this also means she is demonizing a fat man. Joshua comes from a family of doctors and studied to be one himself before choosing not to, they go into some unpleasant medical details about the human body. The protagonist also gets sick and is treated by a doctor in one bit. I also feel it's good to bring up that Joshua gets controlling and takes her phone away in one scene.dizzyindecision's review against another edition

the start of this book was really weird for me. i like a good enemies/rivals to lovers trope but i do prefer there to be at least a modicum of respect there. instead, the two main characters were intensely childish and insulting to each other, and i know that it's supposed to create intense friction but it really put me off. that, and the pervasive fatphobia and ableism throughout the book.
the only reason i'm not giving it a lower score is because once they finally got there, the feelings/romance was pretty good, even though i think both of them made shit harder than it ever needed to be. the predictable nature of the outcome was kind of satisfying in its own way.
i did actually laugh out loud at the part where lucy slaps her own ass in the office, though.
