I'm a sucker for anything that has a hint of Greek mythology and this was pretty decent. Take on Hades and Persephone. Once I got into it and figured out the style of writing, it was a rush to finish to see how things panned out. And naturally it had to end of a cliffhanger of sorts...

I read about half of this book a while ago and I just didn't like it. The concept was intriguing, but the characters were amazingly boring and the story was going nowhere. If you're a fan of bland, mopey heroines and crawling plotlines, this is the book for you.

This had every bad YA cliche I hate. Insta love, love triangle, slutty not special female enemy, special snowflake ya character, and main character so distraught from loss of boyfriend of a couple months that she'll abandon her family.

To be honest, a couple months ago, I was looking for books that were great for YA (such as me), and had a good plot. I found a big list of books that I wanted to read, but only about 10% of them were available to me (due to the fact that I live in a smaller area, and most of the books were not in any of the libraries in my county). When I found out that this book was in the city library, I immediately had my mom take me to check out the book.
I have never read a book such as this one. In fact, I have never stuck with on genre, as I read a lot of books. I really liked Everneath because I found that, even though it's fiction, I could relate to some of the things that happened in this book, and that life consists of tough choices. I feel that no one really gets a second chance to say goodbye, and she was a lucky one who actually got a second chance, even though it meant paying a price. I would recommend this book to kids in maybe 8th grade and above, since it does have some tough words.

What an addicting read. I thought the book would be average, but actually I had a hard time putting it down. The description on the back of the book really discouraged me. The idea Nikki only had six months left on the surface, and she is trying to figure out how to let go, sounded very mopey and depressing. In actually the writing and characters made it engaging and make you want to know what happens next. I will say that nothing about this book is super original or surprising. Still, it was a very fun and engaging read for me. I will definitely pick up the next book soon. Happy reading!

Strongly mixed feelings on how to review this book. For the first (and middle) part it was so painstakingly s l o w. The going back and forth between NOW and LAST YEAR was a tad confusing and Nikki sounded so bland and blah. The Tunnels, Forfeits, Shade, Everlivings. All that makes no sense. I was annoyed with how oblivious Nikki was regarding Jack's feelings.

So why the four stars?

THE FREAKING FRACKING ENDING. Oh boy. Was that worth it all. I twisted around, fidgeted with my fingers, biting my lips as I anticipated what Jack and Nikki would do.

Not to mention the refreshing remake of the story of Hades-Persephone. (Also, look at that cover. Holy smokes on a cracker it's gorgeous)

meh. I didn't finish but I had 20 pages left so whatever. This had so much potential and I love reworked mythology/fairytales but ugh.

This was so difficult for me to get into. Then it expired from my library so I had to get on the wait list all over again. I still had to trudge through. I made it and in the end I really enjoyed it.

I hated how weak Becks was. Even in the end she was weak. Cole knew what he had in her. He knew he could get her weakness to seek shelter in him and he was right. But Jack was stronger than anyone took him for. His love for Nikki/Becks was real and stronger than anyone anticipated, and in the end Cole failed.

I like it, but I thought that it was slow at finally getting to the point. I fell as hard for jack as Nikki did the first and second time :). Even though it was a paranormal story it was really relate able, to any other high school relationship, but most high schools don't end so dramatically :)
