DNF.

I don't know. I just don't think it's the right type of book for me. It didn't really grab my attention all that much. I really liked Cole but the author was making him out to be the villain, which I guess is true.

Eh.

Interesting bits toward the beginning and the end, but everything else was a bit of a snore.

The synopsis makes this sound like yet another paranormal YA romance with a love triangle, but I found this to be something quite different from the slew of other similar sounding books. There's no instalove, the relationships seem believable, and the way that Nikki gets involved with Cole in the first place reads very true to what I remember about being a teenager. I didn't see the ending coming at all and I liked the way that Ashton resolves things. I didn't know when I read it that this was the first in a series, and honestly, I was satisfied enough by the ending to feel perfectly happy having the story end there, though I will, of course, be picking up the sequel.

Meh. I was excited the protagonist knit, but I don't think the author knows anything about knitting....character takes up knitting: "In the two weeks that had passed since I walked out of the Shop-n-Go and back through the door of my father's home, I had knitted an entire wardrobe's worth of clothes, a few dog sweaters for my neighbor, and a handful of toaster cozies." Really? Hyperbole much?
Overall, this was a quick read, and I liked the present/flash-back construction, but overall the characters were shallow and flat. I'm also peeved that this is a series; I was hoping for a stand-alone book. Shame on me for not looking first.

I do not know how I finished this book because I hated this love triangle and I hated the main protagonist! She was so whinny! I had such high expectations for this because I love hades and Persephone retellings. But this was a horrible adaptation and was annoyed there was even a love triangle to begin with it. The story was slow and boring.

Rating: 4 stars

Well this novel ended up being a pleasant surprise for me! While there are some glaring plot holes and a lot of sluggish writing in the beginning of this book, it finished on such a high note that I had to give it 4 stars instead of 3. The idea behind this novel is fresh and unique and the author writes it with such passion that you can physically feel it while you're reading. Though there are inconsistencies (such as Nikki and Cole's relationship), I'm more then willing to look past them if the writing stays this good. I will definitely be picking up the next in this series.

Den zweiten Stern bekommt das Buch nur wegen Cole. ;)

Continuing the Series:
Yes
Recommending: Only to romance likers.

Short Review: Well that was... interesting. For one, the one kid who isn't her boyfriend, i guess, was really rude, like throwing that bracelet on the teacher's desk instead of handing it to her nicely, then getting upset when she couldn't figure it out right away, rude. The MC's dad was horrible, and mean. I don't understand why we needed a love triangle here at all. The mythology part needed to play a bigger role. The ending was too quick and too clean for my liking as well. Too many issues to like this. Oh well. On to book two

Misc.

Book Boyfriend: No.
Best Friend Material: NO.

MY THOUGHTS:
I loved how Nikki's story was magnificently woven with Greek mythology as well as paranormal. It was great to read a different kind of Greek mythology tale dealing mainly on the tale of Orpheus and much darker, in my opinion. The whole concept of it was thrilling and the way Brodi Ashton wrote it was really imaginative.. The Everneath clashed with the human world and Brodi manages to keep realistic problems as well as paranormal problems to intertwine.

I also love how Brodi goes back to Nikki's past and shows us how Nikki's and Jack's relationship came to be. As well as how, Nikki met Cole and how she came into this whole mess. Jack's the sweet yet broken guy; he's the total opposite of Cole. The bad boy, guitarist
all girls swoon over. but as evil as he is, you can't help but feel sorry for him. As for Nikki, she wasn't my favorite MC but Brodi portrayed her perfectly.

One thing I didn't understand though, was how time worked in Everneath and how time passed on Earth. It was quite confusing, so I just focused more on the dilemma at hand. There was also the fact that it was Nikki's decision that got her into the mess she's in, in the first place but I do believe she has every right to correct her mistake and find happiness. You'll love this book, if you're into Greek mythology, love triangles, and of course an unpredictable ending. Everneath will leave you wanting for Everbound right away!!
